Vista Search = Garbage

Is there any way I can restore the XP style search in Vista?

It was so easy to pick something like "Show me all the EPS files on the desktop that I made between May and July" Whereas in the Vista search I can't even find where to pick a file type.

Lifehacker's Hive Five lets the commenters nominate and vote on their favorite apps for the topic at hand (Media Player, File Manager, etc.). The Windows Vista search ended up taking first place for their "Desktop Search App". Just throwing it out there...

The easiest way to get started for me is the Start menu. For a specific file extension you can just throw in *.mp3 and sort/refine your search from there.

If you still don't like the Vista search, there are lots of other options. Everything seems to get pretty good reviews as far as search apps go.

Try copernic desktop search if you want a competent replacement, maximum zero.

I know people love it (and I've adapted,) but I too find Vista search annoying for some of the things that are easy to do in XP.

Everything is awesome. Doesn't have a ton of features (like date ranges), basically just searches file names. I found it very useful when I installed Windows 7 and needed to find where config files, etc were being stored.

I use Agent Ransack when I need to search contents or anything more complicated than a simple file name search.
