This may be a short question but through a weird cosmic quirk I have the pleasure of asking for some swag from Nathan Fillion. My question is what should I ask for and what would be crossing the line into crazy territory? To expand on how I get to ask, my brother in-law is good friends with his cousin who grew up together with him and is like a brother, he has apparently said that if he has any fans that these guys know he'll do his best to score them some sweet stuff.
I have been a fan of stuff he's been in but I don't want to come across as a raving lunatic or stalker when I ask for something. Is it wrong to get the Firefly discs signed, or Serenity? Or a replica revolver signed (I would buy it then get him to sign it, I'm not that greedy)? What I was thinking of asking for may be a little more difficult, I was thinking that because he is shooting Castle now he could snag me one of the prop "Storm" novels or assuming it happens on the show a Nikki Heat prop?
What do you guys and girls think? Too stalker-ey? Anything that would be cool that I'm forgetting about? Anything that can be framed gets bonus points.
I think asking for an autograph on a Firefly box set or a Serenity DVD is absolutely spot on. I think you're only crossing into weird territory when you ask him for a shirtless, oiled up photo with a personal and intimate message written on it.
I was just thinking that due to Firefly being canceled and him being asked about it all the time it would be kinda weird also him being on a new show and all.
No, anything from Firefly/Serenity would be fine since he seemed to enjoy the show and didn't get fired or anything. Creepy/weird would be clothing; props are probably fine to ask about, maybe even more possible since it's not being made anymore.
The ultimate in "non-creepy" would probably be to just make it known what your a fan of and see what he comes up with. "Firefly and Serenity were absolutely fantastic, there was so much about that universe I wanted to explore!" or "Caleb was such a bastard, but for some reason I was fascinated by the character" would provide him with information, but would leave the "pushiness" at the door.
To echo, asking him to sign DVDs or another piece of memorabilia would come across as rather normal, as well.
As long as your not asking him for a vial of sweat or the shirt off his back (preferably with bloodstains!) I wouldn't be concerned. I'm sure that he's seen his share of crazy fans, and if you're not crazy there shouldn't be a problem.
Asking for an autograph on a DVD or anything Serenity/Firefly related is completely normal and I'm sure he won't be offended or annoyed. Asking for a prop from a show might be difficult for him to get and also more time consuming than I think is reasonable (is he gonna have to pack it up and ship it to you?).
I wouldn't ask for a prop either, since he could get chew out for something like that and the show might actually want to hang onto them, for whatever reason.
Having him sign your replica revolver is definitely within bounds, though.
You probably only have one chance to ask for a prop like that. Might as well not waste it. Even if he says "erm, no", he should still sign a few things.

IMHO, so long as what you’re asking him to sign isn't indecent and somehow related to a project he has worked in should come off as normal. DVDs, posters, replicas, etc. should all be ok.
When you start getting into him providing things to you...well, that's kind of creepy and over demanding. Remember, it's not like you know him personally, it's coming to you from cousin to brother-in-law. The more people involved in the request, the weirder it seems. Also, while I understand it’s Nathan freakin’ Fillion we’re talking about here, and you’ll want him to sign everything you own Firefly related, be considerate and just ask for 1-2 autographs, tops.
I'd buy a Browncoat replica and get him to wear it for five minutes while he punched me in the jaw. Mebbe follow-up with a one-liner. I'd wear it for life.
I've actually met Nathan Fillion myself, hes a friend of a fried of mine sort of. He's actually really really pleasant and fairly good humoured. He isn't really very famous other than on the sort of B level cult area. So i wouldn't worry too much about coming off as creepy. I dunno about asking for props as he probably doesn't physically possess very many, and the ones he does have are probably momentos for himself. Props tend to be the sole property of the studios and not the actors.
I got a neat slide thing from him form Firefly and his autograph, and i don't think he was creeped out of the fact that i was a fan of him as an actor and valued his work. I think he appreciated his fans a lot to be honest. I assume you must be Canadian/Albertan if you know somone who grew up with Nathan? Because i think he likes us Canadian fans the mostest.

Though this probably doesn't apply that much to this guy, I once saw someone ask Drew Barrymore to sign the cover of the mid-90s Playboy she was in - that was creepy. And it was made even more creepy due to the fact that this was like 9 years after it came out. She was bizarrely nice about it though - most rational people would've told him to get lost.

So don't do anything like that.
Why do you assume that she would be ashamed of being in Playboy?

I don't think he meant ashamed, I'm pretty sure he meant exactly what he wrote: "creepy."
Hey would you mind signing my spankrag of you? I've only used it for 9 years...

As a gentleman, I'd call it a self-abusal periodical. That makes it less creepy.

Oh, she totally wasn't ashamed - I think she even made some comment about how much better she looked back then or something. The context of this makes it even better though; the event in question was a discussion panel on female condoms. At Stanford University.
Getting swag might be difficult as he probably doesn't have a whole lot just lying around from old shows.
According to Jewel Staite at a Convention panel, Nathan Fillion's home might as well be the Firefly/Serenity museum, due to his propensity (sic?) to pocket props and wardrobes (sometimes those of other characters) and show them off at his home.
Probably easier to get a Firefly prop than a Castle prop. But then, he may just sit around drunk and stare at them all of the time, remembering "the good old days".
At Dragoncon '08, they had a reunion of like...half the cast, and all they talked about was how great Firefly was and how sad they were when Joss called them into a room and said: "Guys...we have to talk...."
Signing stuff = good and not creepy.
If I were you, I'd ask if you can arm wrestle him. And get someone to take a picture while you do it. That is the greatest thing you can get from a celebrity.

*DEMAND* he contact Joss and get the red button! Then once you get it, press the ever living fuck out of it and get the show back on the air! *WIN*
I think you need the three switches too.

MY suggestion though, if you can wait a couple of months, to get him to sign a copy of Heat Wave, written by Richard Castle, coming out Sept 29th.

Slightly cooler swag that doesn't cross the creepy border...see if he can get you like a crew shirt for what ever projects he is working.

Anyway, enough about that.

I totally speculated that second part.
