Video troubles

So my girlfriend has been pissed off at her computer lately, as the video shits the bed as soon as she alt+tabs out of WoW and goes blank. It still appears to be getting a signal, but all it does is remain completely black and the monitor light flashes on and off. Even more frustrating is the fact that sometimes it will do it even when opening WoW (or any other full-screen program) or while powering the whole thing back on.
Video card may not be getting enough power, or the cable could just be loose. Video drivers could also be crashing (Vista and Win7 will have the screen blank out until it can recover, sometimes crashing the offending program).
Try updating video drivers and make sure the cables are in tight.
We checked the cables, they're in nice and snug. We cleaned the dust out too. We updated to the most recent drivers and we're still having problems. Its actually gotten worse, I straight up cannot load WoW without this triggering.
Does your card have a fan on the heatsink? If so is it running? If not your card could be simply overheating. You may have to replace the fan/heatsink or get a new card.
Try and get a hold of another card to try in the (guessing) PCI slot. If your problems disappear, get a new video card. If the problem persists it could be your mobo.
Your power supply could be going haywire but I doubt it if there are no other symptoms.

Yeah, there's a fan, and yeah, it's running. Unfortunately I don't have access to another card at the moment, but I'm willing to bet that's the problem.
I'll report back when I get a chance to switch them out, probably in a couple days.
Exchanging the video card did squat, in fact, it made the problem worse. The monitor just keeps on flickering blanky - sometimes an imagine will pop up for half a second. It will improve if you switch the ports on the video card, but only slightly.
With some video cards alt-tabbing just doesn't work very well in WoW. Either play in windowed mode, or if the computer can't handle that, just don't alt-tab.
