Best method to secure new laptop?

Hey PA,

I just got a new laptop from work and have yet to turn it on. At this point it's basically my responsibility to secure it. I have a corporate version of Symantec, but I don't want to stop there. I plan on fully securing the sucker before I hook it up to the internets.

Can anyone suggest anything other than the following:

Symantec Corporate Edition
Firefox
Malwarebytes
Zone alarm (Should I go with this?)
?

I would greatly appreciate your wisdoms!

You could use OpenDNS, sign up for an account and then turn the filter as far up as you can go and still use the web.

    or Privoxy too.

For browsers, Chrome and Opera are more secure than Firefox at the moment
