I saw Gearhead partnered in the same sentence with Dwarf Fortress, and decided to look it up.

A roguelike with giant robots! Why haven't I heard about this before!? I'll have to find some time to waste with it.

Because it's new, important, and obsolete.

Just make sure the tank controls are off.

I 3rd Mount and Blade, but whatever you play or mod, get yourself a fast horse and a few points in trade so you can make some fast money running the trade routes.

Do you mind if I borrow this thread?

I'm also looking for an RPG to play, but for the DS (and I guess the GBA too). I just finished replaying The World Ends With You, and before that I got about halfway through Etrian Odyssey II before being completely burned out on the endless grind. So I'm looking for something new to satiate me.

I'm tossing around a few ideas, knowing what's out and all. SMT: Devil Survivor is an option, but I've never played a SMT game before. I also thought of picking up Chrono Trigger, which I haven't played in years and years and wouldn't mind going through again. Any other more esoteric suggestions?

Get SMT: Devil Survivor. And if you like Pokemon style games (but better), get Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker.

If esoteric's your bag, grab one of the Sting games. Riviera's the most traditional RPGish, Yggdra Union's more of an SRPG, and Knights in the Nightmare is off in its own sort of quasi SRPG quasi puzzler quasi SHMUP world.

Drakensang is a great PC RPG along the same vein as Neverwinter's Nights 2. I highly recommend it.

Shoot at the ground in front of the enemy, not the enemy. The splash damage usually works very nicely.
