The sound of frustration (Solved, lock please)

Earlier today I was trying to set up my computer to record audio directly from my desktop. This doesn't really sound like it would be too hard, but apparently my piece of shit Sigmatel Audio card would make it that way. (Recording from the desktop is disabled by default on Sigmatel Audio cards for some reason).

After stumbling around the internet trying to find a way to 'unlock' this feature, I downloaded a heralded sound driver that supposedly gave you the power to do so. The driver didn't work, and now I have no sound at all.

So this question is a question of two parts:

1. How do I restore my sound? - Solved, using a system restore point.

2. How can I record audio directly from the desktop with a Sigmatel Audio card? Also solved, see edit.

Thanks much.

edit:

After a few hours of searching I found the drivers that worked and didn't destroy my sound!
Here they are if anyone else is interested: Wave Output/Stereo Mix patch for Sigmatel Audio sound cards
