    It won't be free, then.

1 & 1 are pretty reliable and pretty cheap. Their domain registration is REALLY cheap, actually. www.1and1.com

You would also need to find a place to host your files. When you buy the URL you are not buying hard drive space to store anything, you are basically just buying the right to point the URL to an IP address.

You might be able to pull off using your own domain name with Blogger or something though. It is worth checking. If you cant, you'll have to buy some webspace from a company like this.

EDIT: To have your own mail server though you'd probably have to go with an actual web host.

I had 1and1 wasn't much of a fan. You can only pay in 3 month blocks, and their control panel features aren't as neato.

    http://www.siteground.com

Has been nothing but joy for me, has alot of cool features like quick-installs of certain softwares like PHPBB automatically and such. The database address' aren't some random string of letters and numbers like 1and1 does either.

My favorite pasttime of 1and1 hosting was trying to remember that a3389582.something.com was where my SQL database was located.

A computer that you can have turned on all day and all night, Apache, and then you need to set up the domain to point to that computers IP address.

    http://www.dns2go.com/

A solution to the domain name thing.

Four years ago that service was free. I'm not sure if it still is, but that's what you would want I think.

nope not free anymore, so I'm thinking it'll be cheaper to have someone else host it? I know just enough to see over the water but not enough to swim :(
