I'm googling as I type but I thought I would asks for some opinions to good hosting for a domain with out ads very small amouont of data, just text and a few pics. Any suggestions?
1 & 1 are pretty reliable and pretty cheap. Their domain registration is REALLY cheap, actually. www.1and1.com
You would also need to find a place to host your files. When you buy the URL you are not buying hard drive space to store anything, you are basically just buying the right to point the URL to an IP address.
You might be able to pull off using your own domain name with Blogger or something though. It is worth checking. If you cant, you'll have to buy some webspace from a company like this.
EDIT: To have your own mail server though you'd probably have to go with an actual web host.
Has been nothing but joy for me, has alot of cool features like quick-installs of certain softwares like PHPBB automatically and such. The database address' aren't some random string of letters and numbers like 1and1 does either.
My favorite pasttime of 1and1 hosting was trying to remember that a3389582.something.com was where my SQL database was located.

A solution to the domain name thing.
Four years ago that service was free. I'm not sure if it still is, but that's what you would want I think.

nope not free anymore, so I'm thinking it'll be cheaper to have someone else host it? I know just enough to see over the water but not enough to swim
