This technology thread seemed a good place to let you guys know about a new game engine that our team has launched this year.

I know that penny-arcade supports indie game development and this is a project that we've been working on for some time that is entirely focused on making game development easier for individuals or small teams. The engine is entirely browser based, so you can distribute your creations with hyperlinks and the game will download and play automatically. The best part is that it's completely free (no really, create as much as you like the server space and tools are all on us). We really want to see more people trying to make their games.
Is this advertising? Yea it is, but we really believe that the quality and choice of games can be improved if easy tools are in the hands of more creative people. Penny Arcade has always been a bastion of indie game development and we've designed our engine from the ground up to remove the annoying barriers that prevent indie games from taking off.
So if you have any interest in making your own game or know someone who wants to, check out our engine. If anyone has questions about our engine I'd be more than happy to answer, either here or send me an email directly

Will definitely try this out
Yea we're pretty excited about developers using the tools we made for them. There are a lot of barriers that a developer has to overcome to make a game and our goal has always been simple.... get rid of as many of them as possible. When Mike and Jerry visited Pittsburgh, we got a chance to show our engine to them and they quickly realized the possibilities.
Being able to prototype quickly, then getting user feedback by posting your progress to your blog (or linking to your friends) is an absolutely huge advantage. We are in the middle of building an internal game and we're documenting the design process in blog form, along with miniature live previews embedded in the blog itself.

Ask any game developer and they'll tell you that feedback and iteration is key to making fun games. We're hoping our engine makes this as easy as possible.
