Setting up DSL on a router

Hey guys.

So yeah I work in IT and this is pretty embarrassing but frustrating. I just got myself AT&T DSL and can't seem to get it to work with my Linksys WRT54G2 router.

I set the router to PPPoE, set the username and password correctly. Then I tell it to connect and it does not get an IP address.

It clearly works wired, but for whatever reason it will not work through the router.

I tried setting it as DHCP Server, but still nothing happens. What the hell am I missing?

We had the same DSL provider and same router at work (Well, WRT54G), and I didn't have to set it to PPPoE. It worked just like cable worked, no username or password necessary. Pretty straightforward plug-and-play.

If you have a dsl modem that's already doing the PPPoE, then you do not also need to do it on the router. Also make sure your router IP is not conflicting with your modem's. I recently got dsl and had to put my router on 192.168.2.x so i didn't have a conflict on the 192.168.1.x subnet.
