Help me pirat, ye dogs

... no, not that kind.

I'm desperately wanting to play an age-of-sail-privateer pirate game for the PC.

What i've played, and comments on both:

1. Sea Dogs (Akella, 2000)
I absolutely LOVED this game, and would still play the damn thing if I could get it running better under xp on a newer system. I liked the open-ended model, the ability to walk around towns and interact with NPCs, the slow/tactical based sea battles, and the overall pace of the game.
Summary: I want a game similar to this, updated. Epic scale, slow-paced, open-ended, realism as a design focus.

2. Sid Meier's Pirates! (Firaxis, 2004)
This game had me hooked at the outset, and loathing it after extended play. The cartoony graphics, while not my first choice, really grew on me - espeically in the map navigation screen. I loved the little details, like the boatswain calls when you moused over another vessel.
The minigames, while fun the first time, became abhorrently repetitive, and really killed the fun and focus of the pirating and vessel combat in general. Also, fuck the dancing, seriously.
Beyond this, you were able to ascend to the 'best' ships very very quickly, and even had a time limit by which you aged - so you couldn't play indefinitely. Do not want.
Summary: Had ups and downs, but too cartoony and short-lived in game scale.

Can any of you recommend from experience some PC pirate titles for me to look for and try out?
I can google search all day, but am truly hoping for some play-tested reccommendations from PA folks.

My system for reference:
WinXP, 2G RAM, Core2Duo @ 2.0GHz, Geforce 7950GTX 512mb

Thanks!

    tried Pirates of the Carribean?

Never played it myself, but it was originally gonna be Seadogs 2, made by same folks and they rebranded it to tie in with the film. tis supposed to be fairly decent.

Is there something wrong with Pirates of the Caribbean AKA Sea Dogs 2? If you liked the first one so much, I'd imagine the sequel would be the place to go.

East India Company comes out in a couple weeks I think. Check out the sites and see if it's any good.

I think there was a mod that dealt with the dancing thing, but the mini-games in general were still a tad flawed.

It's a very fun game, but a buggy one. I played it on the Xbox and it sounds like exactly what you're looking for.

Based on his distaste for the minigames in Sid Meier's Pirates!, I'm thinking an MMO which is composed almost entirely of minigames is a no-go. Also, you only get access to one puzzle a day for free, right?

Anyone notice how some things (mattresses and the copy machines in Highrise) are totally impenetrable? A steel wall, yeah that makes sense, but bullets should obliterate copy machines.

I don't know about you, but I always buy a bullet proof printer. Its a lot more expensive, but I think the advantages are apparent.

    Seconded.

Edit: If you play on Doubloon oceans, you can do anything for free. Just gotta pay more essentially.

I remember reading about a pirate mod for mount & blade somewhere and a half finished one for Oblivion.

He didn't like the mingames in pirates! because they were super simple and repetitive. This is definitely not the case in YPP.
