I'm skipping an Introductory Philosophy course and taking an upper-level course for a multitude of reasons (reason spoiler'd below, not really conducive to my question). Any suggested reading that will help me out? A website, a book?
The professor has recommended I brush up on some intro concepts - the basics of epistemology, metaphysics, ontology, ethics, logic, etc. Is there maybe an intro to philosophy book, or even a website putting things into simplistic terms, covering the fundamentals of philosophy and some of the key people in it?
I'll be doing more than just that to prepare, but it would be nice to have a strong foundation if it can be found in a book or web form. I have been reading what he suggested on Wikipedia; however, I feel like some of the definitions/concepts are overly verbose and abstract to the point I have to read in between the lines to really grasp it (maybe that's what it's all about, though.)
Background:
I'm skipping the Intro one because the upper-level covers more core education requirements, and I may end up needing to transfer to another college for monetary reasons after next semester, and this is basically the best bang for my buck and I know I can do the work.
