and i get along alright with my roommates and have met some okay people on my floor
so really i just miss the friends i made over a period of 4 years back home

Yeah. Chances are you will lose contact with most of them and make a bunch of new friends. I've managed to hold on to some of my high school friends that I see once or twice a year though.

Marching band has always been great for making lasting friendships. In less than a week I've become great friends with like 10 people. It's great.
I haven't seen any of my high school friends for over a year now. Once In a blue moon i've talked with a handful of them online for a bit.
e-At my first college when I (regrettably) participated in their marching band first semester I made a few good friends that I regularly keep in touch with. However most of the people were terrible which may be due to the marching band of that school being terrible in of itself.

Yeah some bands are pretty terrible. App's band is awesome and many of the people in it are awesome. It is just overall awesome.
I was going to practice and one of my new friends told me to come to the music building to hang out with them and our other friends. I figured I'd be there for 30 minutes, go practice and do whatever. We ended up going to Cookout, came back and sat in the music building hall for 3 hours. Some of the most fun I've had with people.
