So I can wait and get a fit, or get 4,500 free obamabuxx and get one of four remaining focii or one of two remaining yarises.

EDIT: I will look at Mazdas tomorrow, they are out of my price range, really, but I will see what they've got.

I have a 2008 Fit and love it. It is really big inside and is fun to drive. I guess people like the new Focus, but that fake cut-out thing on the front quarter panels is terrible. If you could get it without that, I would think much more highly of the car.

Being a teenager my car, and my first car at that, is a 1989 Firebird. It currently has no drive line because the old one wasn't balanced that good, and it kind of has a transmission problem while in reverse.
    But I love it dearly.
Also it gets like 20+ MPG. Yay.

Got in a Fit today, and it was straight up too small. My knees were pressed against the dashboard.

I love the Fit, too, so it was kind of a shame. I drove a brand spanking new Civic and those things are gangsta as hell. It made me realize one of my criteria for a good car is that it is reminiscent of a spacecraft.

I'm totally going to buy a Yaris to spite you guys, though. I can fit in it, as opposed to the Fit, ironically.

i'd like to point out that despite the ford having more power (the T16 GR was rumored to have around 540hp) and it being, well, 21 years later, they still went 41 seconds slower than Vatanen and his Peugeot.

I'm assuming we're talking about the driver's seat, right? I'm only 6'2". Maybe I'm all legs, or your friend's all torso.

I had a ton of extra headroom, but my knees were literally up against the dashboard when I put my feet on the pedals. The seat was all the way back and the steering wheel was as high as it would go, it didn't matter. My knees were right up against the overhang of the dashboard. I feel like the seat in the Yaris sits a bit higher off the floor, which alleviates this issue somewhat.

That doesn't make sense. If you don't want them to touch the dashboard, the seat should be lower. I bet it was jacked up high.

It may just be the styling of the dashboard that's bothering me. I felt like the seat was so low in the Fit that my knees were actually forced a bit higher by the closeness of the floor. It would've been doable if there was more room below the seat for my legs to go.

This makes sense in my head, please let me know if I am truly insane.

Tyrone, when you reverse, things come from behind you.

So I used this Meg's Headlight restoration kit on my headlight covers... $22, comes with a bottle of Plast-X wax/cleaner type goo, an applicator pad with a shaft to hook to your cordless drill, and a buff rag.

Anyway, looks a little bit better? But I dunno.. there's still some haze. I did each one 3-4 times too.. either it's not scratchy enough, or I didn't use enough pressure (says to use light pressure..) or the haze is actually on the INside ..

    Before sploierd for heug:

    After:

They actually look better than this, the flash really shows every spot and speckle...

I'm becoming more and more adept at fixing cars. How I did it was to buy an older (but still in decent shape) car that would need progressively larger jobs done on it to keep it on the road. An active and helpful online community is also a plus.

I bought a Lincoln Town Car (1997) because I liked it a lot, parts are very common and cheap, it's mechanically simply, and has a couple strong online forums that includes professional mechanics.

    So far I have done:
    Power window gearboxes
Power window regulators (the track and cable mechanism)
    alternator
Check Engine Light diagnosis and repair (cleaned the mass air flow sensor)
    Rear Suspension air springs
    Tracked down a vacuum leak
Front upper ball joints (replaced these twice, due to bad parts the first time)
    Front lower ball joints
    Front sway bar links
Front wheel stud (crossthreaded one and needed to press it out and put a new one in)
    Spark plugs & wires.

I am now very confident working on the suspension and brakes of the vehicles. I could probably replace the ball joints in a few hours if I were to try it again. I'm still not too sure of myself working on the engine and transmission, but the transmission needs some attention soon so we will see.

Yeah it's easy, if you have the right tools (filter remover and torque wrench are key). The biggest problem with doing it yourself is what the fuck you do with the used oil? You have to put it in something that won't leak all over your trunk and drive it down to the nearest recycling center..

Blah, just take it to Jiffy lube/Oil Stop/Speedy/etc etc

Fortunately my landlord is a boss and is really cool with rent. I was like "Hey I was out of town last week and am broke so I couldn't get you the rent on time." he replied with "don't worry about it, I'll be out until next friday anyways so just pay me when I get back."

The people who own the apartment actually own several in the complex, so I just set up my bank to write and mail them a check at the end of every month. They were pretty prompt about getting a dude to do a few repairs from the previous tenant. I've emailed them. . .once?

a filter wrench is like 8 bucks, and a cheap socket set for the plug is no more then 15. Cut the top off a milk jug or two and get a little messy.
