Yeah it's easy, if you have the right tools (filter remover and torque wrench are key). The biggest problem with doing it yourself is what the fuck you do with the used oil? You have to put it in something that won't leak all over your trunk and drive it down to the nearest recycling center..
Blah, just take it to Jiffy lube/Oil Stop/Speedy/etc etc
Or you just dump it in the nearest storm drain
a filter wrench is like 8 bucks, and a cheap socket set for the plug is no more then 15. Cut the top off a milk jug or two and get a little messy.
Done. I just saved you a couple hundred bucks over the lifetime of your car.
Man, car stuff is so fucking cheap in the U.S. an oil change done at an independent workshop over here costs around $100. Synthetic oil will add $20 to $50 to that... A lot of dealerships only offer repair work or factory services (minor service for like $200, which is just an oil change, a test drive and a quick rinse with a pressure washer), they refuse to just do an oil change.

AU$100 is about $83.... for what, exactly? Jesus.
I could go to Wal-Mart and get it done for as little as $10, but then I'd have to wait in line.
Problem here is the nearest storm gutter drains right underneath my patio and into the creek in my back yard.
Not too hard to recycle here when they give you a big giant blue bin to throw everything in.. you don't even have to sort it.. glass, cans, paper cardboard etc... dump it in the bin. It also means I can order the smallest garbage can since half my shit goes in the recycle bin instead.. my garbage bill is $20/month I think.
Too bad you can't dump oil in there or I probably would change it myself. Still, paying some grease monkey $20 is better than crawling under there and getting all dirty. Maybe if you enjoy that stuff but I really just don't.

I just save up the old oil and filters and when I feel like it I can take them all back to the store for recycling. oil change only takes me about 15 mins and costs about half of paying someone else to do it.
I wound up following a m3 convertible to lunch today and when I got there the 70 year old dude who got out said that he couldnt stop looking at my running lights in his rear view
I just bought a used car (99 Honda Civic) and I was wondering what the steps to register the vehicle in New York are. Do you insure the car first, go to the DMV to get plates and then drive it? What forms do you need?
I'm not sure how things work in NY, but down here in Florida you have to have proof of insurance and a copy of the title with the transfer of ownership stuff filled out, including the odometer reading and how much it was sold to you for so they can determine the tax to charge you for. If you went through a used-car dealership they may have handled most of that for you already.
I found a 2001 Ford Escape with 425,000km on the clock and apparently in good condition. $2000. I'm kinda tempted cause I think if I could get it to make it to 500,000 it'd be pretty awesome to have the car that just keeps on going, but then I picture the pile of bills that I would incur getting it there.
Thoughts? (and if I actually went for it I'd definately have it thoroughly looked over by my dad (mechanic))

First put a ridiculous huge whale tail spoiler on that bitch. Then get some rimzzzzz the bigger the better. 19" is good, 20" is better. Then hit up ebay for a fartcan exhaust. If the tip is smaller than a coffee can, cut the bottom off a coffee can and weld that on there. Then start looking for a horribly-fit body kit, again ebay is a good place to look here. Next up you need a ludicrous sound system with at least 8 subwoofers, the key here is to spend more on the sound system than you did on everything else up to this point, the purchase price of the car included.
Just kidding, yeah you need insurance first, then go register it. I assume it already has plates from the former owner, you just need to get title transferred over to you. Or if it's out of state, get NY plates.

That is really fucking high mileage. Basically the car has done 20 years worth of work in 8. Unless it has an entirely rebuilt drivetrain (engine, gearbox, both diffs and all driveshafts) and has had all the suspension and steering completely overhauled, I'd be wary as all fuck.

Also, from the video that I watched, the damage is fucking stupid anyway. Smash into a barrier at 80km/h and the front bumper is crooked? Yeah, that's realistic.

Well, considering that in a 10 minute race I'll usually have at least one crash that would totally any vehicle and make it undrivable if not completely upside down over and over, I wouldn't want my car to stop moving

Yeah, I really didn't think it'd be a good idea in any way.
my 1988 Saab 900 has been having cooling problems lately - the fan isn't coming on and in Columbia at this time of year, that's a serious problem
I can't check right now because it's pouring rain, but I really hope it's just a blown fuse - if that's not it then I may need a new fan entirely, which is both expensive and a total pain in the fucking ass to replace

Even if it is not the fuse, there are a number of other electrical problems it could be.
Is the fan temp sender working properly?
Is the fan relay working?
Does the fan have a bad earth?

So many future babies that jesus is crying now.
Like those future babies will do?
Future babies....
Mother Nature will just have to deal
I keep trying to think of something to write but I can't.
I need to go rest my brain for a bit.
I mean I'm sure some of the stuff I've thrown away has been, but I've never done it purposely.
The world will handle us when it needs to.
The A-bomb for one.
once we get too big for our britches we'll die out.
Science!
And then this Friday I'm getting the back brake pads replaced and changing the oil. Woo.

Cool, 170 cars out of 1000. Well done guys.
