Help with MSword

I tried to open a word document today, and it says that I can't work on my project because the document is locked.

how do I fix this? I really need to work on this project

If all else fails, select all -> copy and then paste it into a new document

EVERYTHING is locked though. I"m completely unable to copy anything or open up a new doc.

That's the official response.

My response would be to kill all instances of word. CTRL+ALT+DEL and see if WINWORD is running in the processes. If it is, kill that and try re-opening the doccument.

Otherwise, the copy/paste thing.
