Looking for offline multiplayer co-op titles

edited August 2009 in Games and Technology
I want to get my wife more involved with gaming with me, but she's not really competitive. I'd like suggestions for games with local co-op multiplayer. We have a PS3, Wii, and we each have a DS, so I'd prefer to restrict the games to those systems. Genre is not important.

    Is genre really not important?

Because there's Gears of War, Halo, Army of Two, Left 4 Dead, and other such co-op FPS/3PS titles out the wazoo if she likes to get her frag on.

World of Goo for the Wii. Few people ever remember this but the Wii version has co-op, and WoG is one of the best indie games of recent years.

I don't think it is. She was willing to play through the RE5 demo with me.

Now that I think about it I only have one 360 controller, so I actually can't play co-op there.

He doesn't have a 360 fellas. Hard for him to play a lot of those games without one :P

Rock Band, Raving Rabbids (any in the series), Puzzle Fighter, Worms

If you really want some friendlier co-op games, you should get a 360.

It's not completely co-op, but since you each have a DS, I heartily recommend Meteos as a game you can play together. I got my girlfriend a DS about 3-4 years ago, and this is the only game she still plays. She didn't play games before we started dating, either. You can play on a team vs. two cpu opponents (which is the closest it has to co-op), or you can go against each other. The single player is also a lot of fun.

Correction, he has one but just has 1 controller :(

Which pretty much means I have no idea what to recommend.

Yeah, this is right. I stupidly put 360 in the original OP, and then when everyone started recommending 360 titles I realized I was a moron and that I only had one 360 controller.

and i have no compelling reason to buy him a controller, whereas he has a compelling reason to buy his woman a controller.

get outta here with that sass.

    Rockband
    Little Big Planet
Sacred 2 (haven't tried this one yet, waiting for my copy to ship)
Super Mario Galaxy (assuming that neither of you suffer from headaches/motion sickness from the camera)
    Lego games

Rockband consumes the majority of our local multiplayer time.

Everytime this type of thread comes up I do a search for Schizoid and am dissapointed.

Schizoid is one of the best co-op games ever made. It's designed for ONLY co-op. Simple controls, challenging game play. You actually need teamwork and communication to make it through the stages. Think action puzzler.

games I play with my wife on wii/ds : Mario Kart (DS and Wii) , Wii Sports Resort, Animal Crossing , Clubhouse Games, Mario Party (Wii and DS), there are others on Xbox and XBLA but those are not going to help you much.

I got my wife one of those pink 360 controllers, she liked it and gets a lot of use out of it. Castle Crashers, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, Uno, Family Game Night, Rock Band...

I'd recommend Trine. It's awesome physics based co-op gameplay. You can plug in your PS3 gamepad into your PC and download some drivers for it.

I'm picking up Trine if they ever decide to actually release it on the PSN. I played the demo but I didn't realize it was co-op.

Tonight we are going to throw down on some Super Stardust HD and probably play some Super Mario Galaxy. I'll also have to look into co-op stuff on Mario Kart Wii.

You've been missing out! Go into the options menu and from there, in the controller options you can activate your gamepad for another player to join in on the fun. Even a second pair of mouse and keyboard can be used if you've patched Trine.
It's really fun coming up with alternative solutions for the puzzles that wouldn't be possible with just one player. The knight can throw stuff for example, the other character can stand on what he's throwing to get a little higher. Trailer Co-op Action
