Okay so hopefully i can keep this from getting too long. Here's my situation internet wise, past and present:
I use a Linksys router, with my laptop connected wirelessly and my 360 wired. In all the months since i've had this current setup, i haven't had a single problem. 360 games online were completely lag-free and my Netflix streaming was consistently at the highest possible quality.
Late Monday night we had some severe thunderstorms (not sure if this is related). I woke up Tuesday and my modem was completely whacked. All six lights were on and stationary (instead of the "internet" light blinking and the "standby" light being off, as is usually the case). I tried unplugging and restarting it, but all the lights came on immediately and it still didn't function. Called Time Warner and had them run a test, they said it wasn't working.
We got a replacement modem which worked, but completely wrecked my network and refused to work with the router. So i started over, manually resetting the modem, router, and computer in an attempt to get them to sync up. Everything is connected now, but it's ridiculously slow. I can only get the lowest possible quality on Netflix now, everything looks like a 50" YouTube video. Downloads on the 360 take forever, and i'm getting noticeable lag even on message boards and stuff now.
If i hook my 360 or laptop directly up to the modem things work fine, but the second i throw that router into the mix everything is slow and terrible.
So....what's up? Why did my router work fine on monday but now it barely functions? Is there some way to fix it? Would getting a new router likely correct this problem? The guy from Time Warner just suggested swapping the cable between the laptop and the 360 depending on what i'm using. But a lot of times with the wife here, we're using both. So that's not really a solution to my issue. He (in typical fashion) was also quick to brush off my claims, citing the unpredictable reliability of the xbox live and netflix servers. Look guy all i'm saying is that it was working fine for a whole year and having it not work correctly now seems like too big a coincidence. I want my efficiency back, and Time Warner has done all that they will do! Li'l help, anyone?
