Advice about online Art Schools.

I've really been wanting to go to some form of art school for the past couple years, and other than moving completely the fuck away, there isn't too much around me. I'm up in North Dakota and Minneapolis has a pretty good one, but I hate that fucking town and don't want to live there, also the tuition is higher than flying to the moon. ANYways... I've been toying with the idea of online art school and the Art Institute of Pittsburgh online looks to be the best so far. I was wondering if anybody could give me some feedback about that school, or just online art schooling in general. I'm pretty gray about the whole situation. Anything is appreciated. Thanks

Because art is something that you can learn entirely on your own with no instruction, I believe that the most valuable part of going to an art school, is the enviornment in which you get to work in. You're surrounded by all these creative people, you have nice studios to work in, you get live models, etc.

An online art school sounds like a waste of money.

You should move completely the fuck away.

Online art schooling seems pretty silly to me. If you are going to do that you would have as much luck by just going to the conceptart forums and following their weekly challenges. Or you can just rent or buy some instructional videos.

Also, what kind of art are you talking about anyways.

I'm kinda naturally talented with just drawing, and I absolutely love it. I'm not super good or anything and I kind of lack direction. That is why I was hoping schooling could help me. But my main focus, beyond all else, is comic book art. I've been working with a close friend of mine for about a year, devising a project that we would love to do. And as I sit down I realize I need sooo much improvement with my skills, and I'm still trying to figure it all out.

If you're going to do on-line work, might as well go into the Artist's forum here. Some fucking talented fucks in there.

Online degrees are nearly completely useless. If your only goal is to get better at art and don't want to leave your hometown you might as well just buy some books, keep at it and share your work in - for example - PA's Artists Corner to get some decent feedback on it.

If your goal is to get a career involving the arts you should really apply yourself to it and try to get in a real life art school. You will have to leave your hometown for that and I guess that can be hard, but it's really the only way to get anywhere in life. Unless your hometown happens to be a metropolis with every career opportunity you could ever think of right next door.
