Server rules for Outlook 2003?

This is my mom's computer, I've tried getting her to just use Gmail but she isn't cooperative, so we have to keep on using stupid old Outlook. I can't seem to find server rules for this app, if there are any. I remember older versions did have it though.

Problem is, her e-mail address is being constantly bombarded by the MyDoom virus, obviously my ISP isn't doing anything about it, so I would like to be able to block these messages from being downloaded from the server, because creating a local rule didn't work, since Avast blocks me trying to automatically delete the files as they are received.

Or at least how to make Avast automatically delete these e-mails, I swear Avast has the worst user interface possible.

Any help/tips?

Outlook server side rules only work with Exchange, not POP3, as far as I know.

I have no idea how to help with Avast.

Sorry, not very helpful, but thought I'd at least clarify the Outlook rules thing.

That is helpful, because I needed to know if it was possible or not at least ;)

Yeah I'm going to have to figure out Avast out, or just revert to AVG, thing is, AVG doesn't pickup the Win32:Vitro virus, which is a system destroying virus.

Education over technical protection is not an option, then?

I'm not familiar with the attack vectors of the viruses you're talking about, but you can have Outlook block all executable attachments.

My mom's almost 60, and she's doesn't have very retentive memory when it comes to computers, also she said something about some templates she wants to keep or something from Outlook. I'm still trying to get her to switch to gmail.

Even though it wasn't mentioned in the first post, yes, the current email is a POP3 server.

The attachments are coming in as "attachment.zip" so it's a little too general, they're varied and just state the same message but in different ways: "Message delivery failure". I've already added the variants to the built-in blocker but a new variant comes up and it doesn't catch it.

My mom won't open them up, since they're tagged with [AVAST Virus detected] but they're just so many and they make Avast pop-up with a VIRUS DETECTED! message, which I'm trying to get to automatically delete the virus, but I've failed.

Edit: And I've finally found the option in avast.
