I've got a couple of wisdom teeth that keep poking through and it's fucking killing me :(
I work early till late so going to a dentist isn't an option till i can get some time off, and more to the point, i don't actually have a dentist atm, so i'll have to find one over the weekend.
Until then are there any good painkillers that you can just buy at like tesco's that are particularly effective as pain relief in the mouth? i've been taking paracetemol and ibuprofen but they're not doing much.
My mate normally has some codine stuff lying around which is very good, but you can't get it as easily in England i don't think.

tl;dr - super effective pain relief for mouths

I don't know about the UK, but in the states if you'd go the a pharmacist (or chemist, as I think they're called there) and explain the situation, you could get codeine. Of course this is pretty much riding on the pharmacist's personality and your appearance. Much lower chance of success if you're poor or a minority, or look like a druggie.

Dude, you really do need to go see the dentist for that.

It could be an infection. That won't just go away. Open the phonebook (or just open up google maps, and type in "dentist near your town here"), call one up, explain the situation, and see if he can work with your schedule. If that one won't work with you, call the next one on the list.

That being said, I had a tooth infection in one of my wisdom teeth earlier this year. It was so painful that I couldn't sleep. Couldn't eat. Couldn't do anything but just lay there and hate everything. Believe it or not, tylenol #4, which has codeine in it, just didn't help all that much. But ibuprofen helped - alot. How much are you taking now? Might want to increase the dosage.

But seriously, call a freaking dentist dude.

Oragel and tylenol are what I generally use when I happen to have mouth pain. I'd recommend the gel form of Oragel to the liquid, it seems to be more effective.

I had some mouth problems, and for some reason the Baby Orajel worked better than the adult stuff. So you might want to give that a try.

It's also a pleasant pink color.

mmh, i'm going to look one up tomorrow lunch i think and sign myself up over the weekend, and hopefully get an appointment for then as well.
The chemist is closed atm which is a shame, but i'll have a look for things with codeine in, and just take some more painkillers. atm i'm on 2 every 4 hours

Anbesol is another topical anesthetic. It's just a trademark name of Benzocaine. It's the same stuff the dentist will use to numb your mouth before injecting things like novocaine. In my experience it doesn't last terribly long, 30 minutes to an hour at most, and I always had a problem getting it on my tongue and numbing my tongue...

IME, even when my wisdom teeth were coming in, and when I had an abscessed tooth, not even demerol did a whole lot.

    See a dentist.
