So, the next biggest step in my life is about to happen. I plan on proposing to my girlfriend of 13 months next month. She just kind of out of the blue got this whole trip to St. Louis planned for me that I thought was very sweet. She is paying for the majority of it, too. Hotel and tickets to a Cardinals/Cubs game. She knew I was a big Cardinal fan and I just can't believe she did this.
So, we'll get there 9/18 and leave on 9/20. The game is on 9/18 and we are going to go to Six Flags on Saturday.
Basically I decided this is a good time to pop the question. It'll be our first time away together just the two of us and it's about an 8 - 9 hour drive. So it's a good distance away as well. I figured the best way to do it is the standard, out at a nice restaurant type thing. Nothing cheesy like having it hidden in the cake or anything. Just simple tell her how I feel and the typical I love you type speech and go from there.
I just need to find a restaurant. Please recommend me a nice restaurant to spend our special evening at.
I think after an appetizer, 2 meals, a shared dessert, and tip it should max out at about $75. I will eat pretty much anything, so feel free to suggest as much as possible. She's a bit more of a picky eater, so it'd make your job more difficult trying to find something she'd enjoy. I'll make that my responsibility after some suggestions.

Having said that, Bristol Bar & Grill (seafood) looks good, or Eclipse Restaurant, maybe for drinks after at the cool bar.
edit: Oh, Bristol has a prix fixe menu too. Not sure if it'll still be in Sept., though.
And when it comes to restaurants, she probably won't like the public attention, but we usually request to sit in a booth away from most people, so if that happens then I'll have the perfect chance.
Also, she's 20, so drinks for her is a no go.
Be sure to tell the maitre d' what's going down when you make the reservation. They can recommend the best table.
Has anyone been or have any input on this?
This is consistently voted the best romantic restaurant in St. Louis. It's where my wife and I went just before our wedding last year, and it was delicious. I had one of the best filets I've ever had, and she had the absolute best chicken I've tasted.
We had appetizers, two full-size entrees, and dessert for less than $90 including tip.
It's also not far from downtown, if you're staying by the ballpark.
This is where I did it. The Grand Basin at Forest Park. Bonus: You can rent row-boats to take out on the water.

This is a brilliant idea.
So what you're saying is that it will be more eloquent than the majority of marriage proposals?

Yeah, this looks very tempting.
Thanks for the suggestions. So far the front runner is the roller coaster idea, but it may be more adrenaline than I can handle.
Well, I'm no stranger to cold. I grew up in Champaign, IL, which is about 3 hours due east of St. Louis.
