A new-ish article from Eurogamer about the making and early stages of WoW. Part 2 next week.

Thats a really cool article. Had no idea so much was added in the last year of dev.

I wonder if they'll go into what they were smoking when originally had you go through Blackrock Depths to get to the Molten Core Raid portal instead of attuning and jumping through a window

A new five man and a raid instance that right now takes about as much time and skill as a five man. Plus some dailies and a new BG and probably other stuff.

I wonder what the fuck Blizzard was thinking with the loot for Trial. You have a random second boss with their own goddamn loot tables. So while DKs and warriors can enjoy a chance at their weapon every run, I have so far had...ONE chance at mine. Out of seven runs.

Did we really need to make loot more random, Blizzard?

    No kidding.

Though to be fair, not all DKs have it easy. I believe Eadric is the only one that drops the Aledar's Battlestar, and for me, that's a huge upgrade for my frost DW build (currenly using the Champion's Seal ones).

You mentioned ToC trinkets, so I'm obligated to bitch about Black Heart's animation. It's not like it's the same as a vital cooldown in PvP and PvE or anything.

We had a paladin tank in Vault today and the melee was getting the fuck out of dodge when they saw it proc for the first time.

I haven't even zoned into the 5-man ToC yet. Probably won't until it's the heroic daily. A non-raid instance full of epics, but none of them upgrades.

And doesn't Bacon of Light also use the BoP animation, now?

TO answer something earlier in the thread if they announce the worgen and goblins as new races at blizzcon I will boo hiss the screen and the event every chance I get

I feel new races at this point and accouncing a new exp would be beyond dumb since we have yet to fight Arathas and see inside of his fortress

Yeah, well, people thought that beating Illidan would be the end of the Burning Crusade, too.

Who knows. Maybe the final boss fight of Icecrown will open up the possibility for something like... Fighting Gul'dan.

Or maybe Garosh will be there and pick up Frostmourne and go evil, letting Horde do away with the douchebag once and for all.

Sure, anything is possible. But Blizz has made it pretty clear that 3.3 and icecrown is the end of wrath. They didn't like having Illidan dead and then a bunch of stuff afterwards.

Then yes, that is pretty short.

Though I have to say I don't entirely find the idea of more compact, coherent stories being told through quick expansions entirely unpalatable.

Certainly beats dicking around for 2 years complaining about having nothing to do whilst you farm Kara or whatever.

This is also off-topic, and possible frowned upon I am not sure. I just started getting back into WoW again after talking a friend into playing as well. So I went on a spending spree with emblems of heroism on heirloom items. My question is: Are there any horde enchanters out there on Dark Iron that have the +30 sp to weapon enchant that could help me out?

I feel guilty using this as a trade post but I am having no luck finding anyone and if leveling a priest is as horrific as people keep making it sound I am not looking forward to it.

Actually pseudo-on topic: I am not completely excited about goblins/worgen being the new races. I was initially disappointed that the horde didn't have goblins to start when WoW first released but I kinda understood where they were going it seems strange to introduce them now. Also worgen as an alliance race is jarring to me. But I guess it was my own assumption that the horde was/is the compilation of the "monstrous" races and the alliance was....well the non-monstrous.

That and after the shoehorning that resulted in the addition of the BE's and the draenei I am sort of dreading for lack of a better way to put it the addition of these races as PC's.

I know I keep saying but I do not want to see goblins join the horde
With the number of people killing them for the Bloodsail everyday why would they join the horde? They make enough gold just running the blimp service

Why would the worgen join the alliance with King Douche bag?

I saw on the wow forums a discussion about the new exp being based on the comic book
    Stupid link does not work?

    http://wow.incgamers.com/blog/comments/world-of-warcraft-cataclysm-...-the-portents-of-a-prophecy/?gr_i_ni
If that is so I have nothing but scorn for blizzard and making that abomination of a comic

Or since the link does not work
Blizzcon 2009 approaches rapidly in 10 days. About a month ago, I found at the Trademark Office website that Blizzard filed a new trademark titled Cataclysm. I submitted it to the press and it has spread globally.

Lot of speculations have birthed since then. I have written my share of articles in the past weeks supporting the theory that Cataclysm refers to a World of Warcraft expansion based in the South Seas and the Maelstrom. As well as the Emerald Dream. Both as a combo.

I remind you the Burning Crusade introduced a combo: Outland, Quel’Thalas and Azuremyst.

In previous articles I mentioned the hologram of the world of Azeroth in the Halls of Lightning by Loken’s room. Which can also be found at the Planetary hall in Ulduar. You can see a screenshot here.

In that image you can see Kalimdor is broken nearly in half. Most of The Barrens, Dustwallow Marsh, Mulgore and some of Stonetalon Mountains are represented as a crater that sunk underwater.

However, amidst that huge crater lies an island. What could be tall enough as to not be submerged underwater with everything else? Thunderbluff. Who do we know lives in Thunderbluff that has ties with the Old gods? The Grimtotem tribe. Their leader? Magatha Grimtotem.

As read in the Tauren History, Cenarius taught the Tauren druidism long ago. However, when Cenarius abandoned them, who we know as the Grimtotem tribe fell to the old whispers. Everyone knows nowadays that’s in reference to the Old gods.

There are other hints that support the theory behind Cataclysm, beyond the fact there was a Sundering 10,000 years in the past. Ralo’shan the Eternal Watcher in Silithus mentioned a new sundering that originates from the nightmare.

Malfurion revealed to Remulos in Moonglade the Nightmare’s source is the Old gods. Thus Ralo’shan gave us a hint that the second Sundering will originate from the Emerald Dream.

Then we have the quote from World of Warcraft: Arthas (novel by Christie Golden) where Arthas the Lich King had a vision of the near future, a precognition. In it he saw possibly Nazjatar rise from the depths of the Maelstrom to the surface of the sea. He saw Cenarius in the Emerald Dream’s Nightmare. And lastly, a cataclysm—read more.

The mountains themselves came to life, taking giant strides, crushing everything luckless enough to cross their paths. With each mammoth footfall, the world seemed to tremble and shake.”

I had reported all of these hints found throughout the MMORPG, and the novels, but today I have for you a new source that will simply SHOCK all our lore fans and visitors. Too many coincidences, and hints to ignore.

From the pages of Wildstorm comics’s World of Warcraft ongoing series comes issue # 21. And I have scanned it for you, so that you don’t take my word for it.

Vindicator Maraad: Garona is my niece ... half-orc, half-draenei. I had been searching for her for many years.

Recently, I had a vision that led me here. It said that Garona would be instrumental in the salvation of Azeroth ... that her actions could help avert an upcoming Catastrophe.

It may have something to do with Cho’gall.

Med’an: He staged the attack on Theramore, and he’s planning something that will bring disaster to Azeroth.

Vindicator Maraad: I healed Garona as best I could, building on what Jaina began. Garona remembered that there was a prophecy about Med’an.

Valeera: Med’an is now being ... stalked by some evil ... in Ahn’Qiraj, and perhaps beyond.

Not a demon, something ancient. More terrible. I saw how it magically transformed Cho’gall. Cho’gall wants to control Med’an.

Vindicator Maraad: And Garona will have some part to play in all this. Of that, I am certain.

Meryl: The question is ... What do we do now? The armies of Azeroth are focused on Northrend and the Scourge.

And, in any case, the threat may not be something an army can deal with. It may require magic intervention. Three thousand years ago, when the people of Azeroth were threatened by an influx of demons ... a group of magi in Dalaran secretly formed the Council of Tirisfal to deal with them.

Jaina: The Council created a champion, called a guardian, a conduit for their power. Meryl was one of the original members of that council, and Aegwynn was once a guardian.

Aegwynn: Through my arrogance, the council failed. But the time has come to begin anew, we need to form a new Council. (And soon, I must tell Med’an the truth about his father.)
    cataclysm1_thumb.jpg
    cataclysm2_thumb.jpg
Thus I lay here my last update on Cataclysm supporting the theory with lore straight from the comic book, the novels and the MMORPG.

There’s a prophecy out there. Med’an—son of Medivh the Last Guardian and Garona Halforcen—is the center of this prophecy. He has inherited somehow the powers of the Guardian. He learned to wield arcane, and shamanic magic. Now his grand uncle Vindicator Maraad agreed to teach him Light’s healing magic.

Cho’gall, the leader of the Twilight’s Hammer, attempted to resurrect C’thun in Ahn’Qiraj, by placing Med’an’s unconscious body upon the corpse of C’thun. Med’an was affected temporarily by the old whispers of C’thun, but eventually Meryl and Valeera rescued him.

Garona seems to play a role in all this prophecy. Cho’gall wants to bring a catastrophe to Azeroth. A cataclysm. Is the world of Azeroth in the Halls of Lightning an indication of what we should expect in the upcoming expansion? A sundering in Kalimdor? Will this be managed using phase technology so that low level players continue seeing an unaffected Kalimdor? Or is that a new Caverns of Time (going into the future) dungeon?

Better yet, what if we traveled into the future and remained there for some months before returning to the present? Another server containing a copy of the world that is affected by the second Sundering?

Regardless of what theories can be brought up with all these pieces of info, one thing seems to be certain. The next expansion has to do with the Emerald Dream and the South Seas. World of Warcraft: Stormrage comes out on February 2010. According to Chris Metzen and Micky Neilson it deals with the Nightmare in the Emerald Dream (our video interview).

The recent Warcraft Legends Vol. 4 (Tokyopop) introduced a short story titled Bloodsail Buccanneer (by Dan Jolley) where we see Plunder Isle in the South Seas. The upcoming Warcraft Legends Vol. 5 introduces a short story about the Emerald Dream’s Nightmare. The signs are all there. The constellations are aligning. The South Seas. The Emerald Dream. Cho’gall and the Twilight Hammer. C’thun. The all-new Council of Tirisfal (Meryl Winterstorm, Valeera Sanguinar, Aegwynn, Jaina, and Vindicator Maraad). Prepare for the upcoming ... Cataclysm

GC's already hinted that we'd know more about Icecrown in "a few weeks". My bet is that we'll see it on the PTR by early September, and it will go live in late November/early December. Not long after that we'll probably see the beta for the expansion begin, and if so I'd peg the release date for that sometime in Q2 2010 (April-June).

Exactly that. They hate the horde. They hate the undead. They remember both as actual dyed in the wool, "I eat babies" evil. The wall and their policy of protectionism failed to keep the worgen out and converting them all. So after they are 'cured', they make overtures to those they had very strong diplomatic relations with. That might pity them

There were undead in the second war.

Plus, 'no one has left!' isn't actually true. Theres been a couple references to their ships being seen all sorts of places. Just because you are isolationist doesn't mean you don't know whats going on out in the world.
