I have a HP W1907 nineteen inch LCD monitor. Lately it's been going completely black, although the sound still works. When it does happen, I can get it to work by turning it on and off 10-15 times in a row.
While there is a random element to when it switches off, it always happens when I'm starting or exiting a full-screen program. This makes me think that it has something to do with a change in resolution.
Has anyone had something like this happen before? Any ideas on how to stop it?
Is it still under warranty? You should get it replaced if you can, I doubt having to turn it off and on 15 times is going to be good for the thing if it is already screwed up.
When you're coming out of fullscreen mode, is it in a game or other application? If it's something older that forces a low resolution you could try running it in compatibility mode. If it's really old you could try DOSbox, but I think that forces the resolution switch also. My old monitor was unpredictable and strange with low resolutions, and flat out wouldn't display resolutions below a certain range.
