Should I be concerned?

So, I just got one of these in my inbox

Dear Verizon Online Customer:

We are writing to advise you that Verizon recently received a notification from a copyright owner of a possible copyright violation that appears to involve your Verizon Online account (the "Complaint"). The work(s) identified by the copyright owner in its Complaint are listed below.

We are contacting you because our records indicate that the Internet protocol (IP) address provided to us by the copyright owner was assigned to your service on the date and time identified by the copyright owner. While this activity may have occurred without your permission or knowledge by an unauthorized user, or perhaps by a minor who may not fully understand the copyright laws, as the primary account holder, you are legally responsible for all activity originating from your account.

Copyright work(s) identified in the Complaint:

Copyright infringement level: 1
Notice ID:
Title: <Name of item downloaded>
Protocol: BitTorrent
IP Address:
DNS:
File Name:
File Size:
Timestamp: <Date/time of download>

Copyright infringement is a serious matter that violates U.S. copyright law and subjects infringers to criminal and civil liability. It also violates our Acceptable Use Policy (http://www2.verizon.net/policies/acceptable_use.asp) and Terms of Service (http://www2.verizon.net/policies/tos.asp). If you, or someone using your Internet connection, are engaged in the conduct alleged by the copyright owner, we urge you to stop (and ensure that anyone else who might have access to your Internet connection also stops).

Protecting Your Privacy: The copyright owner has not asked Verizon to identify you, and Verizon will NOT provide your identity without a lawful subpoena or other lawful process. However, if the copyright owner does issue a lawful subpoena or other lawful process that seeks information about your identity or account, Verizon will be legally required to provide the requested information to the copyright owner.

If you have questions regarding this notice or would like to view Frequently Asked Questions about copyrights and piracy please visit us at www.verizon.net/copyrightfaq.

We appreciate your cooperation on this matter.

Sincerely,

Verizon Online

I'm curious as to whether or not anyone else and received one of these and what the end result was... To be fair I've not even seen the item they're referencing, and don't want to, but they're claiming I grabbed it. I've changed my network's WPA key to be safe, though I was wondering what the public opinion on this was...

Here in Australia I've had a few. I just ignored them.

I'd use a private tracker. Seemed to make a difference with me.

Someone else probably knows more about it though.

Yea they mention nobody wants names.
Just a warning. You say it wasn't you, just up your security and forget about it.

if this is your first notice, i don't think they are going to come haul you off to jail.

we get info like that all the time about our customers breaking copyright laws. basically all we do is call the customer up and let them know. we usually walk our cust through some malware scans and explain to them to monitor any other users of the computer.

i would only be worried if you get a bunch more messages about it.

My service with verizon actually ends at the end of this month, I was not planning on renewing due to the fact that I'm moving to a new address, is it safe to assume that a new account means a clean slate?

Just your normal cease and desist letter. Stop downloading torrents from public trackers like pirate bay and it won't happen again.

Verizon is actually pretty good when it comes to this sort of thing. Just fire up Peer Guardian, start using some private trackers, and read the comments to get a heads up on any honeypot torrents.

edit: Also, I don't believe that you are legally required to put on a WEP key of some sort, so if you live near people, you can blame it on them.
