Camera Basics? (quick thread)

So today I got my 8MP digital camera that I had ordered from Woot.com and with a bit messing around, I managed to take a few tasteful pictures of the funky stuff around my house. I'm planning on using it for traditional stuff, like family photos for the holidays and vacations, etc. but I also would like to take up some photography. I'm right now trying my best to get well composed shots and making sure everything is in focus. So far, not too bad I don't think though I haven't had much time to go out and test it out in sunlight. Anyways, I do not really know any cool tricks or effects to do with digital cameras and such nor do I really know how to take care of them, aside from probably just like any other peice of electrical equiptment. I decided that if I can make a qucik little thread here, maybe you guys can get me snapping some better pictures a little faster.

So does anyone know of any good websites or YouTube tutorials or anything that can help me get started on my new hobby?

I'll post pictures later tomorrow...

Some sites to get you started:

Digital Photography review - Their forums are a wealth of knowledge (and some retardation at times).
The Radiant Vista - Everything you want to know about good composition and photoshop use, in video format. Be sure to checkout the daily critique.
Megapixel.net - A review site, with basic articles and terminology.
Luminous Landscape - Some good information with an unfortunate bit of elitism. Lots of large format stuff but some of the articles are good.

That should get you started and keep you going for a while. In particular, checkout dpreview and megapixel for articles on the basics, the radiant vista for improving your techniques, LL for a different perspective, and the forums of each for some decent knowledge. There are a whack of tards on some of them though, so learn a bit before you start taking advice.

I was thinking about this, actually but this just seemed more fitting. Thanks stigweard, btw. <3
