Alright, so my friend got me a new mp3 player (Sony Portable IC Audio Player Model No: NW-E307 is what the label says, Google says it's an earlier model of the Walkman Bean, it was $10 at Shirokiya's so I didn't say no when she offered). It's a USB type device, you load songs through USB and that's also how it charges. I'll say now, I've no experience with mp3 players and the last portable audio device I had was a CD player in 10th grade. That in mind, I do have enough experience with seeing my hubby use his mp3 player to know that something is wrong with mine. I put music on it, unplug it, start listening... and all I get are the preloaded songs which were originally on there. But, when I try to change those preloaded songs, the only mp3s which show up are the ones I put on there. The only other files on there are all either .OMA or .DAT. When I go to the Sony website it mentions something about a program called SonicStage, but doesn't really explain what it is.

The short of it:

1 - Why aren't my mp3s showing up?
2 - Do I need to use this SonicStage program?
3 - Is my mp3 player too old to be supported by the aforementioned program, if I do indeed need to use it?
4 - What else am I missing?

Thank you in advance.

it sounds like what you are doing is using the mp3 player in drag and drop format (like you would a flash drive) while most modern mp3 players have this feature, it is only used to store the files and won't actually play them. in order to properly access and play the files in the mp3 player you need to do what is known as "sync"ing. this is what sonic stage is used for and it's just the companies personal software.

that being said you shouldn't need to use sonicstage; windows media player should sync to it just fine.

I have an iPod and I use winamp to sync to it with great success.

your mp3 player is almost never to old for the company's program because they do what are called firmware updates to keep the mp3 player up to date.

first delete the songs off of the mp3 player, because right now they are just taking up space, and then sync it.

hope it helps, let me know if it doesn't

[strike]Ok, Winamp says it can detect the device. (It said 'Should I be the one to work with this device?' and I said 'Yes', then nothing happened.)

.... But I have no idea how to sync it. I looked for 'sync' in the Winamp help section, but no luck.[/strike]

Nevermind, Media Library makes everything clear.

    Thank you Chuck. :)

Ok, update since I had to go after the Winamp Media Library discovery. (Mostly for others like me who were confused by the bean and come here for help.)

Turns out it does need the SonicStage program, nothing else I used worked (kinda annoying). It's free, thankfully, and my computer hasn't exploded with viruses, so it seems safe.
