Forgive me but this is my first attempt at a game thread (and this post is quite possibly rubbish as I want to get back to playing this and Shadow Complex). Searched but didn't find one and couldn't work out why we are not talking about this game.
Wolfenstein is the sequel to the awesome Return to Castle Wolfenstein (2001) and distant relative of Wolfenstein 3D and Spear of Destiny. Like RTCW this game is developed by Raven Software/id and uses id Tech 4.
Basically, It is up to agent B.J. Blazkowicz, relative of the awesome Commander Keen (I think.... from memory) to save the day. Stolen from Wikipedia:
It is the year 1943. The Second World War is at its height. While Allied forces have stalled the expansion of Hitler's Third Reich, the Nazi war machine still has its boot on the throat of mainland Europe. Enter Heinrich Himmler's feared SS and its plan to master an occult force known as the Black Sun. With this mysterious power source at its disposal, no army on Earth could stand in the Reich's path. No army but the man who had single-handedly shut down Hitler's Übersoldat program and thwarted the resurrection of ancient superhuman King Heinrich I, that is. Once again, the world requires the particular talents of special agent B.J. Blazkowicz.
Anyhow, this game is fun and anyone who wishes to add me and play a game on 360 my username is in sig.
Anyone who wishes to make a much better first post please feel free :P
I've been playing through the single player. Played it for about 3 hours last night. So far it seems really easy on it's default settings. My fourth weapon I picked up was a giant plasma rifle that destroys everything.
It's a good game if you're looking for little substance and just fun run and gun nonsense like the origional Wolfenstein.
I haven't touched multi yet, nor have I read anything on it, but if it's anything like enemy territory I'll piss my self in happiness.
How does the single player compare to the single player in RTCW?
I don't find it as atmospheric as the first. It's doesn't feel all dingy and creepy. And the supernatural elements of the game are there from the beginning unlike the first game where it took a few missions before things started getting all fucked up.
The Veil feels and acts identicle to Soul Reaver's other world, minus the landscape warping and shifiting. It just opens secret doors really ( so far )
There is one big gripe though, the scope sights are abslutley gross looking. I could swer they used the same fat lined template from RTCW's sniper scopes.
There's also a litte bit, very loose open ended game play. The town you're in works like a hub that you can explore mostly for gold in between missions with a small smattering of enemies.
I dunno, so far I like it because it's a easy fun non-thinking game. The enemy death animations at times are really cool ( shoot a guys leg off and he hops around for a few second before bleeding out, shoot his face and you hear the sickest gurgling and choking sounds in a game yet)
But yeah, the story is meh. Secret society that's trying to protect some mystical thing from Hitlers army, yadda yadda Indiana Jones.
The guys on the Bombcast were talking about this. Seemed pretty cool, but they reminded me how much cooler the original 2D Castle Wolfenstein games were.

Worth buying then? I like me some multi and a fun game. I dont expect much story wise so going in knowing that and wanting what I just said from the game is it worth it?

Tempting, though I'm kinda' bummed that it's lookin' to head straight into the supernatural stuff instead of balancing (before finally blending it with) Nazi wunderwaffe SCIENCE! The non-macabre stuff was some of my favorites from RTCW.
Except those legless electric dudes who could gib you in one second. Fuck those assholes.
EDIT: Also, it's rather fucking classy of Activision to sack like half the fucking team on launch day, even if said half of the team was supposedly in charge of the worst part of the game.
EDIT: My beloved Nazi SCIENCE! is still present in copious amounts? Fucking sold!
EDIT: And you know, someone should really do a Nazi version of given how relevent the little bugger is to some of the stuff they were shooting for. Orbital focusing mirrors? Really?
This game has guys shouting "MEIN LEBEN" and sometimes the loading screen tip is "Get Psyched!"
That's...that's pretty much all I needed it to do. Everything else has been gravy.
EDIT: Sorenson, there's some Nazi Science!(tm) involved. They're trying to use it to master the supernatural stuff. It's a nice mix I think. That's about all I can say without spoiling things.

Thinkin about picking this up myself. Played it at quakecon and it was tits.
Well if its tits then that tears it. I may buy it tomorrow.
I played maybe 5 minutes cuz i didnt want to hog it. But I did cackle maniacly when a fellow gamer picked up the plasma cannon and vaporized 10 nazis in a matter of seconds.
They didnt have MP set up so I have no idea what its like. I hear its not good. No biggie, last time they released a Wolf mp it was free, so i dont mind cutting them some slack while they patch it up.
Having played about 30% of the game, or so the stats tell me, I must say that this is a great mindless shooter. That being said, I fucking hate the veil and it feels really sloppy the way it handles. But I understand that it needs that type of thing to differentiate it from other WW2 shooters, so all is forgiven (mostly). Definitely a game that anyone looking for a good shooter should pick it up. Just don't expect Call of Duty level of awesome and you'll be golden.
I only have this game until next Tuesday-ish, but if anyone would like to 360 MP with me, I'll probably get into that some towards the end of the week. My gamertag is in my sig.
I gave this a rent, currently going through the campaign. The "open world" bits between levels is pretty cool at first, but then as you go through levels the game continually incorporates more and more nazis into the town, so that eventually it's such a hassle to get around that you (well, me at least) just sprint through the town to your next destination because seriously fuck fighting a nazi psychic, giant nazi robots, women nazi assassins, jack the nazi ripper and his merry band of nazi cat-things, and 6 nazi grunts at the same time.
Conversely, I suspect the best way to get 100% of the collectibles in the town is to do that shit as early as you can
Tried MP last night.
It was balls. I could never joing a decent less than really laggy match.
I still think they should just have carried over the old Wolfenstein objective maps but updated with a few new oens thrown in. The old beach map was as you say, "Tits"

Oh man, I remember when the demo for WolfMP was released and it was just the old beach map. My roommates and I played the hell out of that map.

This semi rant just took the game from "meh ill try it when it hits the $20 mark at gamestop" to "i'll probably rent it this week, once I finish shadow complex"
Hey, a street sign worked in "True Lies". It saved Tom Arnold from getting shot in the wiener.
Picked this game up at lunch time earlier. They were "sold out", but some poor sap didn't come pick up his pre-order, so they sold it to me. At least that's the story they gave me at Gamestop.

Holy shit.
YOU CAN STACK VEIL POWERS.
Like use Empower, Shield and Mire all at the SAME TIME.
Granted, your special meter goes bye-bye in a damn hurry, but still, for about 5 seconds you're a machine of destruction.
Ok, so this game is in fact tits. Graphics are a bit dated, but it hardly matters when I shoot a nazi the face and he gurgles like a bitch. I am abusing Mire and my upgraded K98 like a mofo. Also shootin an explosive barrel and then stumbling upon the charred nazi corpses was interesting.
I'm pretty pleased with the singleplayer experience so far. I like the weapon upgrades, and shooting mechanincs in general.
My only two gripes with the game are the aparent lack of a save feature(?) it seems I have to rely on random checkpoints? (Or am I dumb and missing something?) My other gripe is that its difficult to tell which housed i've already explored in the hub town.
Multiplayer, IMO, should just be skipped altogether....

until we get full environmental destruction, I won't be impressed by "new" and "innovative" graphics. art design and aesthetic appeal are way more important. although the Avatar: The Movie game is supposed to be the first game to use 3D TVs, and the guy giving his impressions during a preview I was reading was pretty damned impressed with how it worked.
anyways. this game looks great and more importantly at max settings in windowed it runs fine too.
I thought I was doing good by upgrading my SMG then bam, they give me an assault rifle and I haven't used the damned mp40 since. also I feel using powers is pretty damned cheap so I'm not going to be upgrading those things, game is pretty easy as it is on hard. wishing I had gone ubermesnch now.
Finished this yesterday on hard, "meh" just about covers it. A good game mechanically but just not that special and certain sections have a good annoyance factor.
Just put this sucker on my Gamefly list; I expect to be killin' Hitler's mans sometime next week (gives me plenty of time to finish Far Cry 2). As long as it's a solid shooter I'll be happy with it. Love the Wolf series; my first exposure to Wolf 3D was actually a demo for the Mac version. It was only three stages long, but I played through so many times before actually getting the full game.

I am absolutely loving it - the graphics aren't the best but once you get into it you don't really notice.
Good atmosphere as well.

On the other hand, I was 11.
Reviews have said that the graphics are a little out of date.
My only gripe about the game so far is that every single interface shouts "console port" to me. Very jarring that...

Agreed. We reached "good enough not to be bothered" years ago.
Even so, the engine has gone through massive overhauls since Doom.
