What was that book?

A long time ago I read a book about Alaska. I forget the particulars, but it involved a brother and a sister lost in the Alaskan wilderness. They talked a lot about wax-covered matches.

You might be thinking of Cold River by William Judson about a brother and sister who have to survive in the Adirondack Mountains after their father dies of a heart attack.

It was made into a 1981 film.

The cover is vaguely familiar (I remember it had a lot of blue), and the plot doesn't seem like something that would be done more than once.

I'm tentatively going with that one, though it's annoying that Google Books doesn't have a preview.
