free Graphics program?

anyone know of a free graphics editing program that I could use at work. I'd like something like photoshop (that I'm used to). I don't need it enough to warrant the company buying photoshop. All I really needs are some good selection tools, copy/past, and highlighting paint tools

The Gimp sounds like it'd work just fine for you.

I would try Paint.NET. A lot of people will recommend GiMP as well. If you go with that I would suggest getting the GiMPShop variation, which is slightly more tolerable. The GiMPs interface take a lot to get used to though. But if you don't need the extra features, I would definitely go with Paint.NET. It is a pleasure to use.

The GIMP has some cool features - some of which aren't in Photoshop, although it's missing some of Photoshop's features in return - but yeah, the interface was obviously designed by a developer and not a UI designer.

Paint.NET requires the .NET 2.0 Framework (which since I program with C# I've got, but not everyone else does) and is as slow as fuck... for me anyway. YMMV. Gimp's always been responsive for me though. GimpShop is a good idea though... I hadn't actually seen that before. :)
