I think the whole 'one server' thing also helps to make the Lifetime Sub worthwhile.
I mean, how many times have PAers got all excited about getting back into some MMO and forming up to do stuff, only for several people to reply with 'damn, I didn't level on that server, I'm over on x server '.
Very strange, my system is almost a mirror of yours (except for the GTX 280 vs. GTX 260 216 core, which is a difference, but shouldn't be the difference between smooth as butter and smooth as chunky peanut butter), and it runs choppy as hell for me.
What version of nvidias drivers are you running? I know you're not at home, so you can't tell right now, but if you find out later and feel like expending the energy, if you could PM me your driver version, that would rock.
I'll definately send you a message as soon as I get home with driver versions. If you want, I'll take a look at my CO current graphics settings as well and toss them your way. Maybe I disabled something that I don't remember that was the root of the problem.
Either way, you'll get a PM around 5PM CST
Appreciate ya man. You're right, you may have disabled some obscure setting that made the whole thing magically spin like a dreidel who kows.
Has anybody tried Sonic Device (w/AoE advantage) and a cylinder/cone power? I hear you get an AoE sonic boom for each target it hits.
Yes they do. Get the aoe option for your End builder and it gives you an aoe when you use sonic device. Then get the aoe for sonic device as well and it echoes and you get multiple stacking aoes.
I really wish there was a non-weapon option for gadgeteering end builder. I'd like my character to be able to do sonic damage straight from his hands. (or even some glove/wrist gadget that isn't a gun)
Either use a custom framework or respec when you first go to the powerhouse. The blaster bracer or long glove would easily fit the gadget that fires force bolts idea.
hum. so against the mega destroids the only viable option for me was regen to survive. my invul got 1 shotted all the time. maybe it's because I don't have the equips to get my stats up to help it, but healing was a bitch to do manually. with regen if i noticed my health was low I'd just block for a while.
also I really like what they did with electric shield and the 3 point adv. i don't know how the damage will be at lower levels, though. it was giving feedback of 130 against the lvl 40 guys, though. Basically if they attack you while you block you put your hands through your shield and shoot lightning back at them.

I'm not quite clear on what you're saying. What I want is the Gadgeteering end builder (Sonic Blaster) only without the blaster gun graphics. (I don't want my robot guy to use hand-held weapons basically)
Edit: Actually, what I really want is for "projectile weapon" or something added to the list of power origin points and then have some of the blaster-type skills to allow origin point customization.

The Destroids are incredibly easy with regen, however a good physical shield power absolutely ruins their attacks. If you get both, you can easily tank all their hits indefinitely.
I was running around with a dinky little munitions character and plugging away at it with a rocket launcher while a small army of heroes chipped away at it's HP at one point, and it just couldn't touch me, so long as I blocked at the right time.
The nice thing about this game is that combat isn't arbitrary in how you react to an enemies attack. So long as you keep an eye on your enemy and keep an eye on the visual cues, you can figure out when to run, and block. When you've got a four story tall robot chasing after you, occasionally pausing to raise it's arm, which is also a giant missile launcher at you, it's really easy to notice those cues, given its size.

The char I boosted to 40 was a Force user, and survivability was pretty tough.
I had force shield which kept me alive for awhile if I kept blocking, but even then I'd still get whittled down by all the damn missiles which were being fired by the bots. I also took a heal, but that was on a rather lengthy cooldown so not much help. I took teleport as my travel power for quick escapes, and also the 'mist' form from the ice framework. When everything went to hell, I had rebirth to get back in the fight.
Even with all that, plus a personal forcefield, I still got owned over and over again. I think a lot've the problem of course is that while my character is 40, all the gear is around level 9.
I'm not quite clear on what you're saying. What I want is the Gadgeteering end builder (Sonic Blaster) only without the blaster gun graphics.
My reading comprehension skills are lacking without being fully caffeinated, sorry. I was thinking that using force bolts would give you the look you want, but I suppose you want the damage type. Though with the end builders the damage is so pitiful that it's almost a moot point.
I was able to play some this morning before going to work. Had a ton of fun leveling to 40 and taking a giant robot and a bunch of smaller ones along with 10-20 other people. Took the better part of an hour and a lot of deaths but we finally took it down! 8-)
I've been working versions of the PnP Characters my group has and when I get home I'm going to level them all up to 40 and put together a montage video of fighting droids in MC. "Justice Incorporated. We do it the hard way, because someone has to." I love this game!

And the force bolt skill behaves quite a bit differently from the sonic blaster skill. It's less about damage and more about style and how my guy looks and behaves.

Invuln being squishy for the event is, in fact, due to outdated equipment. Doubly so, actually. You're lacking Con from items to offset Invul's resistance scaling, as well as level-appropriate items to keep your Defense value up to date.
Regen is definitely the answer here, since it doesn't scale to any stats (unless you're dex/ego and relying on crit heals).
Edit: as an aside, I noticed that healing drones are absolute shit in PvE at level 40. I never noticed before playing solo, but there's a lot of mobs that regularly use AoE attacks, and the drones healing doesn't increase enough for them to keep each other alive.

Yah running around in lv 10 gear at 40 distorts the system a lot. Anything that is running off of stats other then your super stats is hosed and even those are not very good (relative to where they are expected to be).
Still the event is a lot of fun and I am glad they did it!
good point. they should make more skills use the emination points as well as adding/integrating some points.
palm, fist, chest, head are the default but they should be able to add 1 gun, 2 gun, rocket launcher, gatling gun, and uzi.
basically all the generic projectile powers should be emination pointable.
Much sadness by me when the customizable emanation points were not quite as customizable as I imagined. No Force bolts from a sword, freeze guns, a rifle based munitions energy builder (kinda silly switching from pistol to rifle constantly) or spewing fire from a dragon skull tipped staff... *sighs*

Well, I was able to patch but no luck getting in it seems. During one attempt I got a message that I was unable to connect to the account server. The other times, the application would just cease execution and exit to the desktop, kinda bizarre.

For me, I suffered the opposite reaction. I didn't even realize we could change emanation points (or power colours) up until mid-way through my beta experience when I discovered it quite by accident. I was overjoyed to say the least, especially after years of playing CoX and wishing for that exact feature.
Though I do agree with you that I wish they had separate rifle and pistol frameworks, but hey....you can't have everything I suppose.
If it helps, the fact that the engine is even capable of switching played animations to different points on the model may provide hope that they'll add or create new emanation points in future updates.
Why am I such a consumer whore? I got the lifetime.
Basically, I was reminded of City of Heroes. A game I played for several years on and off, but for almost 30 months. When I added it all up, I figured that a similar game, that I could play on and off, would be worth the investment. (And I'm a sucker for goodies.)
On the topic of goodies, what's the deal with that Defender pet. I remember getting an e-mail about it, mentioning something about subscribing to the newsletter or something.
I just registered my GameStop Pre-Order and didn't click off the Newsletter option. Is that good enough? Or was there some deadline or something that I might have missed?
Who here has actually done the lvl 40 unity mission stuff and want to shed some light on difficulty of missions, rewards, and how good the stuff you can buy with the points is?

It's all blue/purple gear that's better than you can get from drops. There was some bug with the stats where they would appear higher in the store than in your inventory (:x), but they only cost 1-3 Unity points each (that's 1-3 Unity instance missions, they take 5-10 minutes, depending on which one you're doing).
Now they cost 250-1000, and I don't know if they fixed the bug. If they cost that much, they had better have fixed it to have the higher value, because grinding 250 CoX-esque newspaper/radio missions for a single secondary item is absurd.

Holy hell, no, just no. Only 1750 mission to complete your set, gogogo.

My plan is to bank any and all Unity points until several months after release. I highly suspect they'll be forced to lower the costs and/or introduce harder (maybe group) missions that give a lot more points.
Quote from the boards regarding the unity missions:
Rekhan pointed this thread out to me, and I wanted to jump in. I love raiding myself, so this was a concern for me as well.
Let me share some of the things we've got out there for you:
The Boss Battles trailer shows off a few big boss fights.
Also, check out the video page specifically, the lairs trailer.
All those encounters in the Big Boss Battles trailer, except for Dr. Destroyer, are open world raid level bosses. We used a group of 5 in the videos, but I'd be incredibly impressed if you could get 5 level appropriate characters alone to take down one of those targets. There are also a few more world encounters that aren't shown in the video...
The Lairs are pretty awesome, and they're all pretty rough. They are geared for 5 man teams though. Some lairs can be soloed, and others well, they are anything but easy. You'll see your first lair at the end of the Desert and Canada Crisis zones, and then I believe there are lairs available every few levels after that.
The Andrith Ruins is probably the most difficult lair in the entire game. In fact, I honestly have never seen a more difficult boss fight in an MMO than Vikorin the Blind. I got to test this lair out early on, and I remember the designer standing behind me laughing gleefully at how often we died during that fight...
I hope that helps to put your minds at ease a little. The game may not require grouping to advance, but to experience the best content, and to take down the toughest villains, you're going to need a few friends.

Never gonna be a problem with CO.
Goddamnit, I should not be so tempted.

Curse my crappy job.
Also, bring the servers up, i have to go to work in a little over an hour!

I wanted to see what 40 was like....and make a nemesis....
Je suis un sad panda.
Some kind of shoulder-mounted point would be neat too, though that might be impinging on power armor uniqueness.
Now I want to create a character that has a magic belt buckle that shoots stuff.
Or, a clown that actually shoots stuff out of the trick flower costume piece.
I'm not sure, but I am able to patch now.
Not that I'm trying to log on to be an Annihilator Bot for the event. That would be mean!
