-"Where is the konsent?"
-"The what?"
-"The konsent?"
-"What's that?"
-"Ummm... *gets dictionary* ...the outlet!"

This was actually a conversation I had yesterday about electrical outlets, or as the Japanese know them コンセント. This got me thinking as to where the word comes from, does anyone know? I know that japanese borrows a lot of English words, but what other languages does it get loan words from?

If anyone knows the origin of the word "konsento", please let me know!

I have no clue where konsento came from, but the majority of unusual loan words I remember were of German and Portuguese origin.

It comes from an archaic English name for electrical plugs, "concentric plugs."
