You couldn't really ask more of Gilbert during that game. Here kid, let's just throw you against the opposing team during the championship game where everything is on the line. Perform!
"You've thrown 10 passes this season, right? Great. Fantastic. We need you to go in against the number one defense in the country."
I'm amazed at how quickly he adapted. Because it was very clear that he didn't expect to be in the game at all and was nervous as all get-out when he was put in.
probably telling himself "well, you were recruited to replace colt mccoy..."

Two of those interceptions weren't his fault. One was a play that should have never been called, and the receiver bobbled it. The other the receiver bobbled it.
And the fumble? He got hit by a mack-truck from his blind-side. Offensive Line let him down.
But props to the Texas O-line for stepping up in the 3rd and 4th. They protected him just enough to allow him to pass to Shipley, despite us blitzing every single person.

The MVP of the game was the defensive lineman who:
Returned the interception for the touchdown.
Caused and recovered the fumble at the 5 yard line.
Took Colt McCoy out of the game on a clean hit.
Yeah. I'd call that MVP alright.

It is when you have a student season ticket package and no cable.
NFL doesn't even offer the games streaming online.
Assholes.

I guess I would like the NFL more if I actually gave two shits about any individual or any team.
But I don't.

Oh man they keep showing the shovel-pass interception.
That was the greatest stiffarm ever.

i guess college football has the added fun of watching less capable athletes
its pretty great if you like seeing interceptions and fumbles and missed blocking leading to cool sacks or missed blocking leading to cool run plays

Bama played a fantastic game! I loved that Texas hit them in the mouth early with D and then Saban tried to make up for it. It was shaping up to be a great game and honestly with Gilbert's efforts it turned in to one again! I can't wait to watch him play these next few years!

Did anybody notice that Musburger was able to fit in at least one Tebow reference during the game?

Oh, but you know they tried. If it were Verne Lunquist they would have had Tebow in the booth turning water in to wine and sobbing in to the microphone.

No, he was actually able to fit one in. I heard it. It was a comparison of McElroy to Tebow.

Oh hey, thank you ESPN stat of the game.
McElroy threw for 58 yards. He attempts 11 passes and completed six.
I think he might have done worse than Colt.

I don't know man, they are pretty deep this year. I think they can make a run in March if they stay healthy.

If they can beat Kansas at home AND in the Big 12 tournament, maybe. A Big 12 title win against anyone would be a big improvement over past years.
first words out of his mouth in the leading moments of the play where gilbert fumbled it on the sack was "alabama has yet to get a sack this game" and i saw the guy moving up on the outside of the line and i was like fuck.
sure enough.
ingram played a hell of a game against probably the best run defense in college football. texas played badass given the circumstances.
gilbert is gonna have fucking ice in his veins when hes out there next year
