I just set the game settings to give me tons of money so I can build a really big, complex base, and see if the AI can breach the controll room. Which is what the game is supposed to be, except the 1500 starting funds you get by default isn't enough to make a cool base. It is enough to make a cheap room filled with concrete blocks and a brain jar.
On that note, the enemy AI sometimes comes up with some really creative ways to get to your brain. If they can't get through your front door, they'll try to drill down directly into the control room, and will send tons of dudes at you to distract you from noticing that single guy with his heavy digging tool.
nothing like filling up some rockets with crabs and calling for an orbital crab strike
took out the entire outside of my base, between the flying crab shrapnel and the enemies dropships whos engines are clogged with crab parts and then they spun out of control and slammed into the side of the hill

i love this game
Massive clusterfucks of exploding dropships are exactly what make this game so awesome.
Of course, hitting a singular enemy with a transport rocket is pretty goddamn funny too.
is there a way to emulate multiple computers as a splitscreen? I.E. three other people connect to you via something like hamachi, and your computer interprets their commands as commands on your keyboard? It would be nice.

In theory yes, you could setup a videostream and find some program to simply relay keystrokes from your friends. I'm not sure what sort of latency would be okay though.
I do agree that online play would be very nice. I am just going to resort to hooking the computer up to a TV screen and getting some splitscreen action going with my friends.
My God, people, it's taken him 58 years to get this far, don't suggest online play now. He can do a Mount & Blade style sellout and multiplayer development after he gets the damn original game finalized!
Crab bombs are seriously overpowered. I set up a strong base in a cliff and just carpet bombed anyone who came near it with crabs.
Shrapnel of any kind is ridiculously dangerous in this game. I've had guys with full health die instantly, or suffer wounds that bleed them dry from shrapnel wounds.
Get a supply crate [free] fill it with hundreds of crabs [free], send it hurtling into enemy territory.
Makes of Napalm bring you CRABOMBS
So. . . the crabs are hitting the weakspot for MASSIVE damage? My world no longer makes sense!
There are campaign levels where you can pop a few guns into a supply crate, drop it in the right area, and send the guns richocheting into the victory condition.
Haven't played this for ages so I got the new version, the physics system still makes for hilarity and frustration.
I just buy a light soldier and a powerful weapon on the Maginot level and just deploy him on one of the ledges, firing at the incoming dropships and creating a ridiculous pile of shrapnel...
I am really itching to play competitively against another person. I think that the developers should eventually work on having a skirmish option to battle an enemy in another bunker. If procedural bunker building is too complex, then there could simply be static enemy bunkers and you couldn't build your base inside a certain radius of his or her base.

Shrapnel should be deadly; I don't have a big problem with shrapnel itself murdering people. I do have a problem with the weird invisible shockwaves that can instantly damage units large distances away from crab-bomb explosions, even if they're underground or in a bunker.
Hahaha, while experimenting with using rockets as..well, ballistic rockets, I discovered that the dropship's (and presumably other vehicles) thruster flame does damage to units. Expanding on this, I find that it does damage to terrain and structures! Guess this explains the craters that appear in my landing zones.
Anyway, I loaded up the tutorial mission and bought a dropship loaded with bombs. After flattening the enemy units I slowly and carefully shaved away the layers of concrete protecting the enemy brain and finally scorched it to death with the thruster jet.
I love the rocket propelled chainsaw in this game, it's so fucking retarded and overpowered and over-the-top and it's glorious. Also, this is a lot of fun split-screen with a friend (and a 360 pad). We beat the shit out of each other, then we fought against the computer for several hours. We had a fucking gigantic pile of bodies and shrapnel inside our bunker, it took the computer quite awhile just to climb over all of it and destroy us.
So, tutorial: How to get the stuff in the delivery out of the rocket after you tell it where to land? All I know is that blowing it up doesn't work.
Usually when you have something delivered it will automatically spit everything out, unless you take control of the rocket first in which case you have to press the shoot button (I believe) and it will discharge it's cargo.

Oh yeah, I know. I just think it's funny that in a game where you are still completely mobile even with no legs or arms, a small piece of metal or plastic can kill a man instantly.

The Maginot Mission. They just keep coming!
Also, are those badass looking Pope-bots (the ones you see in the opening movie) in the game? Those guys looked slick.

I tend to let the rocket deploy the cargo on its own, then take control and fly it out. Because rockets like to fall over and explode, destroying whatever they just dropped off.
oh hey it turns out they're never going to add online play and they basically call you an idiot if you suggest it on the forums
hmm
Good Lord is it one of those "ONLINE PLAY WILL RUIN THE GAME YOU GAYNERD" things?
Because they get people asking about it almost daily. And I'm pretty sure there's a sticky saying not to mention it :P
well maybe he should put online in if so many people want it
Obviously he is allergic to money you insensitive ass. :P
I also bought it without properly reading up on it first, so I also think that it won't have online multiplayer blows pretty hard. Playing a game like this solo seems a bit like masturbating when everyone else is having intercourse.
Also, I bought it for the Mac a while back, and found out that unless you change the regional settings to English in OS X, you can't register the game. Fucking craptastic keyboard handling, apparently. Also, when I tried to register it on my stationary computer which is a PC, I had to unregister the Mac laptop first.
So, it's a crippled indie game with Adobe levels of retarded DRM. I haven't played it since I bought it.

Heard the proposition that RIAA and MPAA should join forces and form "Music And Film Industry Association"?

I'm confused as to how people could feel screwed for buying the game, when the trial is just the full game with a time limit and less editor options. It even tells you exactly what you will get added on if you pay for the full version.

I dunno about you, but the first 26 years of MY life were pretty good :x
I. Love. This. Game. Heard about it from boingboing gadgets and the indie game awards... freaking incredible. But this could be the developer's cash cow, instant retirement if he'd just add multiplayer. Imagine 4 player with real people.
Also, my brain wants to grow bionic legs and walk around the battlefield.
Using the rocket delivery pods as Scuds is so rewarding when you score a good hit.
Even when you don't it's pretty sweet. Hitting just one robot and watching him disintegrate under the explosion is just as hilarious to me as watching it hit a dropship, seeing the rocket and one of the ships engines exploding, showering the freshly-deployed soldiers in shrapnel, and the ship spiraling down to destroy everything underneath it.
It's even funnier when the crashing dropships roll along the ground for several yards, killing the guys who got away fast enough to avoid the initial carnage.
Calling those few missions a "campaign" would be a bit of a stretch. They're really just a couple of scripted levels. It's not like they exhibit any real cohesion or story.

True, though a "campaign" is being worked on I guess. Still the rest of what MikeMan and his glorious RDA avatar has said is pretty on the spot. Hell, how many of us are playing with a 360 controller already? I am and I am normally a hard line KB+M kinda guy.
If I was a large, misunderstood Dev house or at the least a small, neutral one; I would "research" this idea and release it on XBLA/Steam. Think of the DLC! Weapons packs, factions, missions, and probably other things I can't think of.

I've found that a soldier with a nice heavy weapon like a rocket launcher or an ubergun put on top of your fort can really help with that problem
I see they balanced the weapons for the latest version, last time I played the high end weapons were ridiculously powerful screen clearers (The gatling gun, for instance, didn't have a spin up time and held more bullets, while the rocket launchers were rapid fire). This is a good change, as previously it was just whoever got the first shot won (Still like that, but much less so).
One of my favorite light infantry guns is the blaster, high rate of fire, decent range and quick reload. A lot of stuff is really heavy though, good luck bringing a napalm flamethrower into a base where you have to jetpack.
I hate when I construct an elaborate base, just to have the enemy drill through a huge layer of dirt right into my brain. I kept buying people and equipping them with the concrete gun, but they could drill quicker than I could fill the hole back up.
I tend to structure my bases like the one in Maginot, but on a smaller scale. Underground brain bunker, stairs up, then a tiered tower with multiple firing positions for gunners behind partial cover.

I, too, had a thing for the light soldier/heavy sniper rifle combo. The occasional 3+ hour class made for some hilariously high body counts.

Brilliant game, astonishing lack of online multi, practically begs for an XBLA port, and no campaign to speak of.
Arg. I don't know whether it's worth a purchase. I'll definitely download the demo.

You might be able to set them to AI mode and put waypoints directing into the gold.
