Can't find the damn thing! I suppose I can go to my bank and get a bank check made by them or something? What exactly is the process for that.

"Hi, I want a cashiers check"
They may charge you, it depends on your bank and account. You can also take a stack of cash into Amscot and get a free money order.

You can actually just print out a blank check form, and fill in the account information. As long as all the information is there and in the right font, it doesn't have to be a specific size and paper or anything.

Edit: Money order or temp checks from your bank are your easiest bet though.

Money Orders are generally less expensive (though it's only a matter of a couple bucks usually), but they are also limited to $500, so you may need to get more than one, depending on your rent.

You could always call your landlord and say what you've said here in the thread. If they're cool they'll give you time to either find the checkbook, get a new one, or find other methods of payment (which they might have a preference to).

For whatever reason, I have never ever used a check to pay for anything. When rent came up, I'd either hop on down to my bank for a money order (back when I did this I had an account with Bank of America and they used to only charge about $.50 or so) or to some corner store that offered the service for usually about a $1.25 (price of convenience).

if you have a supply of checks to refill your checkbook from, you can use one of them.

You can probably just walk into your bank and ask them for some temporary checks. I do that all the time. They print out a sheet of checks for you and then you leave. With the checks I mean, you take them with you. To your home probably.

Just a head's up, cashier's checks are generally fee'd based on the discretion of the teller. At my local BoA(s), a nice smile and a kind request will usually get the $6 fee waived.

I *always* pay rent with cashier's. I hate waiting for my landlord to deposit for the money to disappear from my account.
