DND Podcast Series 3

edited January 2010 in Critical Failures
Hi Guys

Was looking around to see if anybody was discussing this but couldn't find anything. It looks like the 3rd series of the Penny Arcade/ PVP / Wil Wheaton has started now as I have just downloaded and listened to the 1st episode

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/4pod/20090828

The guys seem to have really got into the swing of things straight away and the humor is a lot more based in the actual storyline than the previous ones. Chris Perkins needs to take some credit for that as he seems to be setting up a really tongue in cheek story and running with and incorporating the guys' madness into the story more.

What does the rest of the forum think so far?

I know very weird, it is barely even advertised on the WotC site. I only found it because I was downloading an episode from Series 2 again because the one I had was corrupted.

Hopefully all will be explained shortly.

They prerecord these months before they are put into the podcast feed for WotC because they add in items, creatures, and build for players in upcoming books. Will Wheaton was playing an Avenger before the book was available. He mentioned that it was all written by hand from the books, and he couldn't use the DDI stuff to make his character for this reason.

Oh, I mean, Gabe/Tycho probably didn't post it because of PAX. That's why we forum denizens didn't see it.

    Awesome. I really enjoy these.

Is there some page with all of them posted, so's I can download them all at once? I don't really need to deal with Itunes.

    Edit: answered my own question...http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/4pod/AcqInc

Also they don't really record them separately, they just have one mega session that they then edit into podcasts.
There is normally a bunch of discussion about them in the 4e thread.

I didn't finish series 2 because I moved from Japan, so I suppose I should listen to that again. Then see what's going on in series 3. So far the only effective advertisement for 4E I've seen, it really gets new players into the game, in my experience at least.

James Winnifred Darkmagic III, of Newhamp-Shire.

    "The DM laughed, it's canon!"

This'll be the first one recorded after Mike has been DMing his games; Scott has been playing in some and DMing in some - I think they're be less miss-recalculating of attack bonuses and more epic craziness.

Wil's really quiet so far, or he's just unwilling to shout-down the others ;)

Maybe he's thinking of essentially the same line one second later. I hate when that happens, because it pretty much lasts the whole time, and you feel like a tool if you say something.

Haha!I just realised how suspicious that looks!

Actually my name is Chris also so that would add to the confusion. Maybe I should change my sig to the actual initials.

0 threads long time lurker however. I wouldn't say Chris Perkins is awesome I thought he was a bit of a killjoy on occasion previously.

As it is PAX this weekend I expect that this is the least of the guys concerns at the mo.

I am surprised therefore that WotC decided to release this when they did as it seems that they would get less attention on it because everybody is focused on getting geared up for PAX.

Okay you got me I am actually Josias Kumpf suspected Nazi war criminal still at large

Nah I would give you more information but forgive me for being a paranoid son of a bitch on teh interwebs. Also it would be pretty difficult for me to work for WotC all the way out here in Hong Kong as well!

I am enjoying the podcast so far and look forward to some more lovely goodness tomorrow (it's 9:30am on Thursday here).

Moment of the podcast so far for me:

Omin (Jerry) - Nathan Farringray sent us he said you were having some road trouble?

    Barton (ChrisP) - NO SHIT!

Has the rare affect of rending Jerry totally speechless for a moment.

No worries, I'm just joking. There's no need to confirm your identity on the internet. We're all the same here unless we have a webcomic or something. OR ARE A DM WITH HIS OWN PODCAST, EH? EH? Try to fool us, will you? Feck.

Anyways, the DM was pretty sarcastic throughout, I think, but the players talked over him a lot, so it worked out for the best. I did like the description of the irresponsible dwarfs.

Lol. I also like the fact the Dwarven Ale might feature heavily in this series.

I may have to go by myself a stein and some specialty beers to fully get into the experience. What beer would a dwarf go for if they lived here... I am thinking probably Altbier man that stuff is good.

Great only... 9 more hours of work to go and I can go get some.

I guess I was under the impression that this post (just under the sketch) was referring to the 2ND episode (of this 3rd series), no? They must have announced the new 3rd series a few days ago, otherwise how would I have known about it, a few days ago?

Bah! They really make you jump through hoops to listen to these things. And Wizards' poor organization of them all doesn't make it any easier. Somebody send me a smoke signal when a 2nd episode is up.

Dwarfs don't drink fancy beer from tall glasses. They quaff cheap beer from iron flagons. To get in the proper dwarven mood, get yourself a six pack of Budweiser tallboys and pound them...but spill at least half of each on yourself and others whilst singing. Do not, under any circumstances, drink Pabst Blue Ribbon in this case. You'll just end up a Tiefling.

Edit: Pabst Blueribbon would be a horrible half-elf name.

I don't think a Dwarf would be caught dead drinking Budweiser or Blue Ribbon as they are BOTH LARGER WHICH IS BETTER KNOW AS GNAT'S PISS.

    Budweiser makes an ale now.

    I think that would qualify.

Indeed that would as long as it is hearty and good.

Also I should have said that yes the only correct way to drink the beer would be to quaff it from a flagon and dribble it down your beard.

Or remember that he has stored an encounter power in his armour and can therefore use it twice! (Specifically thinking about the last encounter of series 2 where he bitches that he is out of encounter powers).

Utopias from Sam Adams is probably the only real world equivalent dwarves would drink. its the only thing approaching the alchohol levels they're renowned for. It's the world's most alchohol by volume drink made from natural fermentation.

anything after Utopias is classified a spirit because you have to distill to get higher levels of alchohol.

not that Im a beer guy or anything...

I'd pay good money to have Jerry learn how to play a cleric. Love him to death, but good gravy. He's so busy roleplaying the CEO, he's neglected to learn what his powers actually DO. So many scrapes they could've avoided entirely if he was learned in the clericy ways.

Also, Kurtz whines like nobody's bidness.

That said, it's obviously all in fun, and I envy them greatly.

It was these podcasts, combined with the posts that Wil made about his own home campaign that got me into 4e.

I am now a total slave to Wizards for their books and Games Workshop and Reaper for their figs.

Fuck... I've painted over 75 figures, AND done a swack of putty sculpting since we started three months ago. I wish I hadn't just counted that up.
