Sony's New Reality Series on PSN -- "The Tester" Grand Prize = Minimum Wage Slavery
Are you at the top of your game? Now you have a chance to prove it in the new reality competition series for PlayStation Network called "The Tester." This original program will challenge a select group of gamers in a series of tests to determine if they have what it takes to make it as an official Game Tester. The elimination competitions throughout the series will not only test the contestants' video game knowledge, but they will also challenge the gamers' memory, stamina, dexterity, and overall mental prowess. Contestants must have the whole package to take home the coveted prize in this new original series. That's because the lucky winner will earn a contract position at Sony Computer Entertainment's Quality Assurance department in San Diego, CA, where he or she will get hands on time with the most highly anticipated games in the industry.
You must be at least 21 years of age and legally eligible to work in and a current resident of the United States for consideration.
Oh, man. This is hilarious. San Diego is where Sony Online's offices are, so the"grad prize" reward is a bottom-of-the-scale job on a temp contract position, probably playing Free Realms.

Or worse, the Everquest 1 expansion.

So I see that Sony's marketing still has its fair share of morons.
Eh, I actually don't blame this one on Sony's marketing. Or Sony. Really the thing that's at fault here is the fascination with reality TV shows where the winner will be given some sort of job. I mean, hell, even I watched one of those kinds of shows (The Next Iron Chef, I liked that competition a lot  ).
Then again, I have heard time and time again that QA positions are temp contract jobs, and if Sony isn't being forthcoming on that, shame on them. If they've created some super contract for the purpose of this show though, hey, that's actually alright. It puts one person out of the 10-ish% of unemployed people into work! Or maybe they have a job already.

I'm waiting for the train wreck where the person they hire is some shmuck working retail (better if it's a gamestop) only to find out he's making less money now.

How exactly do you test a gamer's stamina? Make them play an MMO? Or is that endurance?
Yeah seriously, this is dumb. On the other hand, if they were doing this to find someone for a creative position, an artist or something, I think you'd probably find someone with genuine talent.
Though, the pettier the importance the fiercer the competition. So it could be fun to watch. Like a combination of the x factor and young dumb and living off mum.
This is awful. Seriously? Anybody want to jump through all these fucking hoops to "win" a job as a game tester?
If the raisins were better, this wouldn't even be an issue. Depending on the location and the company, QA jobs are actually really easy to get. In many cases, they just want headcount to fill some kind of hours quota.
Do young-uns these days still have the misconception that game testing would be a totally rad job? I thought that was one of the (many) harsh realities that the internet had pretty much completely disseminated by now.

I just looked at their terms and conditions of the contest and it doesn't cover details about the prize. So it seems to be up in the air as to whether or not this is just a regular contract job or the super-contract I proposed on page 1. Which I doubt in.

And yet folks will probably be clamoring over a spot.
Having been a QA Tester for some time, I wouldn't mind the job. And it would beat being unemployed.
