2.1 speaker recommendations

Hi H/A,

Going back to college for my sophomore year, and I realized I have no speakers to use with my laptop. Last year I was going to buy some, but my generous roommate had an extra set of Cyber Acoustics speakers (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16836150041).

New roommate this year, as far as I know no extra speakers, so I would like to hear your recommendations for 2.1 (powered) speakers to use with my laptop. Those CAs were ok, but I'm sure there's something nicer.

The only requirements are that they be powered/computer/desktop speakers (don't want to have to buy an amp, etc). And not too giant. I'm looking to spend no more than $60, bonus points if I can get it on amazon, since I have amazon prime (free shipping!).

Also, please don't advise headphones, I already have a nice pair of IEMs and another nice pair of full size cans (beyers).

Thanks in advance!

Well, I was going to tell you to buy these before I saw your price limit:

I've had a set of these for about 5 years now and they're still the best computer speakers I've ever heard. I know it's a little out of your price range but if you can swing the cash I'd totally recommend those.

Otherwise, I'd say go with whatever Logitech speakers you can find in your price range, I've never had a problem with anything Logitech has made.

Yeah, I was going to recommend these but it looks like they're out of stock. I got them for about $40 about 2 years ago and have been pretty happy with them. Anyway, they're also Logitech. I've had good luck with them.

I'm seconding the reccomendation for the Logitech Z-2300s. I love my set and I don't think I'll ever upgrade unless I go to a 5.1 setup.

    Thirding the Z-3000's.

Bought mine when I built my first PC 4 years ago and they still work fantastically.

Never put the bass or volume past 3/4 because it felt as if my house was coming down.

Sorry to kinda resurrect my own thread.

The recommendations for the z-2300s are much appreciated, but the logitech site says the sub is 11"x11"x15", which will not really fit under my desk (need a little bit of room, having legs and all). Any other suggestions for something with a smaller sub?

I've noticed the similar, but but slightly cheaper (where I can find it) Logitech Z-4 (and Z-4i). 9x9x9" sub might work better, but I'm open to all brands and prices.

    Thanks again
