Obscure Music Question

Okay this has bugged me since my girlfriend asked me about it earlier today. I saw an interview with Neil Fallon (lead singer of clutch) that Atlantic wanted them to cover a popular song and they said no, I was wondering if anyone new what song they wanted them to cover. I tried googling but clutch is hardly the biggest band and I couldn't get anything

They suggested that they covered My Sharona or some LL Cool J.

I was thinking to myself "Clutch? Isn't that the band that Duff Goldman from Ace of Cakes is in?" Then I looked it up, and apparently its just the band he wishes he was in, so he made a cake for the lead singer.

I know that doesn't help, but it's anecdotal.

    Here's an article about it
He still laughs at the marketing ploys that the labels encouraged to "generate a hit." Covers from LL Cool J and even the Knack's “My Sharona” were presented as potential cover songs. As their fans can attest, Clutch has performed live covers, just not the kind that will precipitate interest from top 40 alternative radio stations.
