also the ficking bookstore neglected to hand back my debit card yesterday, and then couldn't find it today, so two weeks till I get a new one. Guess the rest of my books are goin on the credit card
I left the camera battery charger at home so when my parents come back up in a like a week I am go to take a bunch of pictures of my room and post them here regardless of whether this thread is about that or not.
The day after PAX I start my two weeks of RA training once again.
Yeah for 18 hour work days, super!
my second year of RA training, i just skipped it. Told my boss, nah, I think i'll just not go.
He said "yeah, it's mostly shit anyway"
I don't think I could pull that off... Plus I like getting to know my entire collective staff team better.
RA training is all fluff.
How do you figure? I think learning how to handle a suicide, bigotry, rape and other issues to be pretty important.
coming from a 2nd year's opinion.
and a lot of the longer lectures i sit through that go on forever can be boiled down to a few essential powerpoint slides.
also, best learning is from hands on experience. we have this part of training where we go through reenactments, which is 100x more useful than listening to lectures.
a yup.
EDIT: oh, and legit, suicide is no laughing matter.
also, just to put it out there, RAs aren't trained professionals to help diagnose depressed students or even give advice of that nature. but RAs can point students in the right direction in where to go for help, aka a counseling center. basically to help out, just to a certain extent.

And I agree, we do the same thing here. I'd say the training helps in getting a staff team to know each other enough for trust to form, going over some of the basic bureaucracies and getting an individual's mindset in the right place.

And I'd agree here as well but there is a lot of good advice that is given during training on how to approach that kind of situation (or any of it).
my loft bed has a little extra space under it where i store my sheets, but if i move those out of the way i can hide and play camping with my terry pratchett books! or hide from the insanely cold air conditioning

A friend asked me if I would swing by his campus tomorrow and say hi to the director of the opera program there. She's a really good friend of mine so it could just be them all missing me, but it could also be that the guy I raped back in High School (that is another story) has dropped out as Koko and they need somebody who can do the role.
