Also final general advice, but it's one that's good for anyone:
You never get a second chance to make a good first impression. I know I repeat myself with the "Don't be an idiot, moron, clueless douchenozzle" comments but it's way more important than you think.

And no I'm not an example.
He speaks the truth. I'm still getting killed day 1 for doing stupid newbie stuff in earlier games.
Also with the whole being new and first impressions thing: When the game starts, read everything in the OP and your role PM. Then reread both of them. Then do it again a dozen more times.
A lot of new people make mistakes that range from simply giving themselves away to doing things that are against the rules because they fail to read. Also, even if you don't have enough time to catch up on everything, at least scan the thread for clarifications made in orange. If you want to be useful, though, you should really do your best to keep up on everything that is posted, even if it's a lot.
On a related note, if you need to vote Infidel out, make sure to Say you seer'd him as Evil and not try to argue with him all day on the basis that he is "the most suspicious person left"
The above edited post by me reminds me of a piece of advice that may be host-specific, or maybe not.
Beware the ninja-edited narration results. Gumpy recently ran a game where a player was given the role of a death thrall. This character was a mafia member who would seer as a good guy, like a typical thrall, and would even appear as good upon death (hence the "death thrall" moniker). Anyway, this particular role's narration reveal as a good guy only lasted for one day. After that day had passed, Gumpy simply altered the narration results from the previous day without telling anyone.
I think Arivia did it in L&O. Also, I don't know why...
Also, didn't Neville do it in the Whedonverse main? Or am I misremembering?
Whedonverse was the first Phalla I followed, and I'm pretty sure he just said "The spell has expired on ___'s death, he's actually ____" or something along those lines, in a subsequent narration.
Totally tempted to sign up but I'm already in the D&D one and I'm not sure if I can keep track of both of them. Sure, what the heck, the other one's a mini-phalla. !signup
I've played mafia a couple times but I've only been in one other phalla game so I don't know if that makes me a vet or not.
When role PMs are being sent out, it's usually not the best idea to show up and start posting in the thread until the Host announces that ALL PMs have been sent out, unless you were chatting prior to them being sent out. But if you just show up right after getting your PM, it can make it obvious if you're a special/mafia/vanillager.
And again always check the OP, as some hosts will not send out a PM to regular non-special villagers (aka vanillagers), but instead just put the normal villager role PM in the OP. This is discouraged because inevitably someone posts "Wait I didn't get a PM" which then starts a debate, but just always check the OP to be safe. Or if you aren't sure about your role, send a PM to the host instead of posting in the thread about it.
I absolutely agree with what Nocturne said above. Once signups are closed, I will make a post so saying, and will also remind you to please not begin voting or actively talking about the game (general chit chat is fine) until I post the beginning narration.
At the end of the beginning narration will be a large bold orange statement from me declaring that all role PMs have been sent, and that the game officially starts now.
But again, as Nocturne said, that is not always the case, and I have personally fallen for the "Hey, I didn't get a PM" thing. It is quite embarassing.
Welcome! Out of curiosity, how did you find out about the game?
By chance, really. I visited the Critical Failure forums to see what kind of games they run. I saw a few phalla games and decided to read up on them. It looked interesting, and I've read through a few games since. I figured this would be the best place to start my phalla career.

Can I still !Signup? It looks like there are 3 spots left.
If I could say that I've played in less than zero phalla games, I would. But all the cool kids are doing it, and thus, like smoking, i begin to phalla. I'm in el pacific time zono.

Vote who you feel is right. Some times you'll be wrong, but some times you'll be right.

On the main subforum page with all the threads, to the right of the "First Post" and "Last Post" columns, there is the number of Replies. That number is a link to everyone who has posted in a thread, their number of posts, and if you click on that number a list of every single post they've made in the thread.
This is your most powerful weapon. It may be common sense to some, but if you don't know about this neat little link you will be at a disadvantage. Use it to see who is staying under the radar with posts. Use it to take a closer look at every post a suspicious person has made. It's magical.

Ingenious, but also a bit of a pain in the ass.
edit: I think he announced it in Whedonverse.

Woohoo for milestones, I guess.
They tried to bury us. They didn't know that we were seeds. 2018 Midterms. Get your shit together.
This is my first game, eastern time zone. Looking forward to it.
People usually don't talk in so many strange colors.
They should, it makes the thread very interesting to read :P
