That seems to be more of a Gamestop thing now. My local one is handing out preorder bonuses when you pick up the game, same as elliot's. I've had to do that with ODST, AoT2, AC2 and ME2. I think it's to prevent something similar to what happened with Marvel UA2 and the Juggernaut business.
Yay I'm finally home from being out all day I can't wait to play STO
Oh look, server's down, weeeeeeeeeeeeee

Do I look like the sort of man who'd go and find unsuspecting Japanese schoolgirls in short skirts and white panties and ask them if they want to see my "Cthulu Special"?

Explain this
Juggs was suppose to be a GS timed exclusive bonus. You had to get a code from your store and use it on a website somewhere (cant remember which site, GS or Activision) then you got your xbox/ps3 redeem code emailed to you. This was all done before the game was released. What I heard was that it turned into a big clusterfuck and people that didn't preorder got the bonus and some people that did preorder were screwed out of their special character.
I'm probably missing a few details but the M:UA2 thread has the full story somewheres.
The more I look at planning my character out skill wise the more I get hung up at the "Starship Projectile Weapons" and "Starship Energy Weapons" trees. I just hate the idea of spending points in stuff I'm not going to use.
Same goes with the "Starfleet Training" tree. Please tell me I'm wrong, and that there is more than 1 skill there that boosts all the ships in your class type. The only one I see are the 3 in the Lt.Com section of the tree. All of their descriptions end in "...any type of cruiser/escort/science". Whereas all the other ship related skills say teir specific things like "...any type of Heavy cruiser", "...any type of Exploration Cruiser", and "...any type of Star Cruiser".
It's like they expected you to have points to spare.

from what little I played of the beta, I was using both projectile and energy weapons rather equally. (Torpedoes count as projectile, right?)

That or they expect you to shell out respec microtransaction dollars to change ships.
What weapon setup are you headed towards?

You hit upon one of the basic flaws with the late Open Beta change of skill system: There are many legacies of the previous system, making the current one illthought out at best. The chances of the change being motivated by a cashgrab (charge for respecs, extra slots) is also considerable.
So yes. Everyone should max out the t1-t2 ship and weapon skills, and skill all the t3-t4 stuff, then buy what little t5 you can afford. That's the only "viable" skillbuild at the moment. Because the skill system is stupid.

The tier-specific ship skills also affect the matching player class abilities, and I'm almost positive they didn't do this back in beta. Hybrid characters are really going to suffer, if they keep things the way they are.
If they plan on supporting it (Says something if I have to say "if") there's gonna be a change. Removal of the cap, reduction of point cost, something. For now its some bull though.
Not a freakin clue. Sadly, as a Klingon Eng, I find myself wanting to put more and more points into my ground combat skills and defensive ship abilities rather than the space combat stuff. I mean, I play a shit ton of ground combat (hell, its how I have to level), and as an Eng I can't really expect to to dish the same amount of damage as my Tact/Rambo Klingon brothers, so why bother (yes I'm sure I can still hold my own).
I'm seriously thinking about skipping all weapon skillups and just doing straight ground combat and space defense/support.

(Not)Playing the Headstart reminds me of the bumper sticker we wanted to make for my last ship (A sub tender that had a record of breaking down every single time we went out to sea.) A relatively sized sticker that proudly proclaimed "Boldly Going Nowhere".
We felt it was fitting having been DIW (Dead in the Water) a couple of times but we didn't think it was worth losing a rank and pay for. And it probably would have only lasted a day at most before it got torn down.

You're talking about PvP, right? Ground PvP is best won by getting two weapons with high-damage secondaries (split beam rifles, sniper rifles), then switching between them for consecutive firings. It's enough to two-shot anybody, so other ground abilities are rather secondary.

I thought I had it secured in the highest, strongest, most well lit secure facility of my mind, but Mass Effect flipped my space opera switch and now I can't get enough space ships and laser beams.
I even reinstalled Empire at War and picked up my old Light Drone Cruiser.

You know, the loading screen blurbs say that Data was placed in command of the Enterprise after Picard left Starfleet, but what ever happened to Riker?
Edit: ahh, USS Titan
Reconnaissance Science vessel, Luna class.

...and when you are done with that; take a folding
chair to Creation and then suplex the Void.
Yeah I was unable to buy or sell anything for awhile, and now I'm stuck at an endless loading screen of endlessness. I think this means it's dinner time.

I had insane fun earlier. Looking forward to getting back in and starting my borg player.
One day in and I certainly don't regret the purchase, which is funny. Buyer's remorse usually whoops my ass.

Eve which also runs on a single server has login queues all the time in the number of thousands of players after a downtime.
