I am several weeks behind, so here are the last two weeks that I didn't post. I still need to post the latest week, too, which I will hopefully do next time. School is being terrible
4-17: Wanted to play with my Bamboo so I digitally inked one of my previous drawings. Tried to color it but it didn't go very well. I'm definitely not all that comfortable with a tablet yet.
As you may remember from last time... actually, you probably don't remember a lot because I rushed through a most of the layouts. What that was supposed to look like was a teenage girl climbing to a mountaintop meteorological radio transmission station, a biker gang deciding to raid "the city", and a buncha deer getting hunted by monster men. What's going to happen to those poor, poor dears?

Ah, so our intrepid road warriors have captured themselves a Harley-Davidson dealership. How long will the good times roll? Probably not too long because that would be one boring-ass story.
Next Week: see how big of a disaster it turns out to be.
Some of these are crappier than usual. I was sick some and also some days I was sorta negligent. But still, Beavo said even a doodle on a napkin as long as its something. So I at least took a picture every day. So far that's 117/365 without missing a day! Woohoo!

I have a couple weeks to catch up on posts for, but I don't have internet at my house/on my own computer for possibly another week or so. I'll post once I do though!
At the Stumptown comic fest right now, and while you'd think that so much indy comic energy would make doing the daily layout a piece o' cake, the opposite is true. Strange world. I did meet Kate Beaton, Meredith Gran, and Aaron Diaz though. That was cool. Unlike myself, they seemed to have no problem drawing pictures.
All right, as you may remember from last time, things seemed to be looking up, what with the successful looting and all.

Next week, uh... ah... I'm dyin' here. I'll edit this when I'm not so wiped out.
EDIT:
Okay, I'm up off the floor now.
Fun historical fact! After 100 years of illegalization, commercial distillation of absinthe in the United States resumed in 2007.
The result of this new production is the uprising of "absinthe bars" in Portland.
Wikipedia told me Absinthe was "a mysterious, addictive, and mind-altering drink continues to this day. Absinthe has been seen or featured in fine art, films, video, music and literature. The modern absinthe revival has had an effect on its portrayal. It is often shown as an unnaturally glowing green liquid which is set on fire before drinking, even though traditionally neither is true. In addition, it is most portrayed in the media as causing over-the-top hallucinations." And that Van Gogh, August Strindburg, Pablo Picasso, and Ernest Hemingway used to be habitual drinkers of the stuff. Well, hell... can you imagine a comic written by Hemingway and illustrated by Van Gogh? I thought it would be good fun to try channel their spirit through this spirit.
Well, my conclusion is what made those artists great wasn't what they were drinking. This jade-green stuff tastes like licorice, costs a lot, and makes you wake up the next morning feeling like your head is trying to turn itself inside out. I have been able to replicate --perfectly-- Absinthe's effects at 1/10th the cost with Pabst Blue Ribbon.
But oh sure, how many artist and writers ever admitted to being inspired by Pabst? Same effect, no credit. That's hardly fair.
I know we're not supposed to post other people's art here, but Kate Beaton was nice enough to draw a portrat of me and I thought I'd share. She's so nice:
Happy Free Comic Day everyone!
As you may remember from last time, we discovered that looting motorcycle dealerships becomes significantly less fun when you betray your position to a horde of rabid psychopaths. Then again, driving motorcycles through plate glass windows and shooting guns is some folks' notion of a good time...

So there you go. A happy ending. I mean, if being on a Wal-Mart roof with a buncha armed-to-the-teeth bikers ain't one optimistic post-apocalyptic scenario, I don't know what is. What could go wrong?
Well, I do have three more pages in the chapter, so check in next week to find out.
But let's take a break in the story for something completely different.
I was going to draw something to commemorate making 100 days of resolution. But it took two days to draw, so I had to go with this:
Apr 29nd and 30th
And to finish off the week, here's a one-pager. I'm still trying to work out the lettering placement to force the reader to traverse that inner circle more than once.
May 1st
Next Week: the end of the post-apocalyptic chapter, and then moving onto a couple of superhero stories. And I hate superhero stories, so brace for a lot of self-loathing.
4-30: I did some gestures, but don't feel like scanning them.
5-01: See 4/29, a face with no reference. Came out very nicely (for me), except for the hair.
I'm going to be away for the next two Saturdays and may miss a few days during that time (24-hour drives don't leave much time to draw).
As you may remember from last time, everything turned out all right for the men on machines, but I'm finishing off the chapter with these three hapless souls:
May 2nd
May 3rd
May 4th
The end! Sorry for the lack of resolution; it's only chapter 3.
But if you like resolutions, here's some one-page instant gratification:
May 5th
And the moral of that story is that love conquers all, but especially the mutant tentacled horrors of your former coworkers.
That was kinda superheroic, or supervillanous if you prefer, but I did promise a full-on superhero story.
Here you go. It runs thirteen pages:
May 6th
May 7th
On the road again, so this is the dysfunctional marriage of lots of tiny panels and digicam graininess.
May 8th
And if you can't make that out, the point is that Henchman school isn't panning out so good for that guy. Then why are we even reading his story? Either I've made a poor storytelling choice, or things are gonna change big for him.
I promise I haven't given up on this! The stuff I do have done I don't have scanned, and on top of that I'm also a little behind. So here's the deal, before I leave for Ecuador (so before June), I will be all caught up in this thread. Then I'll leave for Ecuador and live in the rain forest, so I won't be able to post anything for a month and a half. When I come back I'll have tons of stuff I drew in Ecuador, and then I won't fall behind anymore.
Deal!
Sweet snaps as always, E. I look forward to those every week.
Layouts continue with the superhero story.
As you may remember from last time, Henchman school wasn't working out so well. The test results were full of fail. So is this guy good at something? Anything? Besides mopping floors?
One promise though: this week features 200% more facepunching than last!
May 9th
May 10th
May 11th
May 12th
May 13th
May 14th
May 15th : facepunching at last! Better late than never.
About now I'll bet he's wishing he never would have grabbed that teddy bear. On the bright side, though, it looks like this story portends steady growth in the facepunching sector.
Next Week: the exciting conclusion. And then we're moving on to something like a buddy cop story, except neither of them are cops. And it has a supernatural theme. I'm not even sure what genre that's supposed to be, but there it is.
I'm almost a month and a half behind on updates, and I can honestly say that I probably haven't been drawing every day, but I'll try to keep up with posting so I can continue the habit of getting something drawn daily.
Art can be used for evil.
Just ask my daughter.
She was mad because I make her clean her dinnerplate before she can have dessert.
One night, she really wanted dessert, but wouldn't eat her vegetables. I told her, "sorry, no dessert."
So she drew this picture, put it on my desk next to me, then walked away mumbling something about me being fat.
Yes, she is an artist. She got the bellybutton sticking out from under the T-shirt and everything. Oh, and she informed me that I have "really bad hair."
My son, however, is a writer.
He got ahold of my label maker.
The first thing he did was make a label and stick it to my back.
When I took it off, he put it on my pencil box.
So I put on my pope hat and took this picture:
(thanks for the photographic inspiration, erisian)
That's how my week went.
And those are the kind of kids I get.
As you may remember from last time, our hero had gone from nearly washing out of Henchman school, to getting the job, to getting smacked in the face by his immediate supervisor. Let's see how his turbulent career is progressing, shall we?
May 16th
May 17th -- Panel 3 has my favorite line in the story: "Easy, Dave! Easy! We can talk this out. Just put the lunchbox down."
May 18th
May 19th
May 20th
May 21st
The end!
And the lesson here is that although you might make a lousy henchman, you could be good sidekick material. Either way, you're probably going to get facepunched. A lot. So keep your +1 Lunchbox Of Whacking near at hand.
Now moving on to the non-cop buddy story. And by "non-cop" I mean, of course, "bum":
May 22nd
Not much happening in page 1. That's just the way things start out sometimes.
