they do less damage then the pistols, and for someone who aims at the chest, this means they take longer to die.
In the time it takes me to kill them with the smg i can have them dead with the pistol and be carrying the shotgun for when the tank or a charger shows up.

Well, dual pistols does barely more damage than the smg, while the smg has better penetration and accuracy. Silenced smg does a fair bit more damage than dual pistols.
The chrome shotgun only out shoots the smgs at a pretty limited range, and pump shotguns generally ain't great for tanks.
I would have better accuracy if i didn't shoot everything and only shot at zombies.
Also slightly better damage and unlimited ammo is more my speed then having to actually learn good gun control. I will agree that the woodgrain shotgun is garbage and i do my best to avoid using it.
I use the hunting rifle over it. The hunting rifle! I hate that thing.
everything but expect the magnum will one hit common. it is currently the gun i have the most kills with. I think it is still at over 30% of my total kills.
edit: even on expert a chest shot will often put them down, but leg shots likely won't.

Yeah, but can I dive through the air with a silenced SMG and feel like I'm in a John Woo movie?
It's kinda funny because it used to be in the original L4D if you were using something other than a shotgun you were probably doing it wrong, and if you were using the sniper rifle you certainly were. Now the snipers are usable and many more people use the assault rifles. The desert rifle seems really shitty to me, but I'm pretty sure I'm just not using it very well.

My friend is working on a roguelike game you can play if you want to. (It has free demo)
I'd think the game is about being able to work with other people as a team. Being really good by yourself doesn't mean much.
ok sure but what melding is saying about the hunter rifle versus the sniper rifle doesn't really make a lot of sense
the hunting rifle and sniper rifle do the same damage per shot and have the same rate of fire. Sure, the sniper rifle has a larger clip, but if you think the sniper rifle is good then the hunting rifle should be almost as good.
people tend to think that the sniper rifle is better just because it is black and looks more professional I guess, but there's really not a lot of difference between them

I wasn't really talking about that.
I've always liked the hunting rifle anyway. I like the fact that it can shoot through a horde really fast, and it is pretty good against specials too.

like do you constantly aim at the zombies' feet or something?

Desert Rifle is the best rife.

I use that a lot but it's not so hot on Tanks or whatever

Also I want to play this game
This isn't rocket science. I like being able to shoot 30 things with one clip more then 15.
Nope. But quitting is just kind of lame
