the realid thing, considering they changed it because customers didn't like it, should now make you like them more. sure it was a bad idea, but they changed it! which is doubly great.
minus points for bad idea
plus points for getting rid of bad idea
plus points for listening to fans
The fact that the came up with the idea at all, and from it sounds like the idea was coming from above from activision, and the fact that it really most likely wasn't a way to make the forums better and was really a way to get in on social networking advertising etc etc.
Is enough minus points to weigh out rescinding it.
I guess we view it differently, then.
I don't see how an idea can be so bad that it is still a negative when you get rid of that idea.
The way they rescinded it was very condescending.
They used the word 'fearmongering'. It was basically moaning and complaining that RealID was too awesome but some loudmouths were ruining it for everyone, and they'll put it off 'for now'

Well it revealed that Blizzard has less control over itself than previously thought which is very unfortunate and makes you wonder how the company will operate in the future and what the quality of their games will be like. Additionally the inclusion of RealID screwed up the old method of identification. Identifiers are back but now they're dumb randomly generated numbers. And what about the other Battle.net changes they made when they implemented RealID? They got rid of a lot of stuff, did they put it all back?
what did they get rid of?
and they may have less control over certain things but it doesn't really make me question game quality. probably because I played the game and it's awesome.
and realid didn't screw anything up except for in the beta where they disabled the other way to test realid. we don't know if identifiers would have gone down this road anyway or not.

It wasn't at all sincere
I'd have to read it but it doesn't seem that weird that they would say it's awesome since it's what they wanted.
luckily they listened to their fans like good companies do and took it out.
like i understand that it is a thread with "hot" girls in revealing clothing or sultry poses
but why is it called a "ranger thread"
Because we used to have threads called Red Ranger/Yellow Ranger/Blue Ranger, etc. for posting nothing but pictures of hot girls of a certain type.
Not sure how it started. Red Ranger was hot chicks. Yellow was anime and asian girls, blue was dudes or something, etc.
red was how it started.
someone will have to explain why it was the red ranger thread when... isn't red ranger a guy? I remember the original pink ranger being posted quite early in it but I'm also sure it was red ranger thread.

I thought red ranger was the name of the forumer who started it.

More like:
- Minus lots and lots of points for really terribly abysmally bad idea.
- Minus a bunch of extra points for their unabashed ethical condescension to everyone.
- Minus a couple of extra points when you note that they never even figured out a good way to facilitate basic friend lists and chatting before their stupid-ass RealID idea.
- Add a handful of points for caving in to media and customer pressure and ditching the terrible policy.
- Minus a billion points for posting in a passive aggressive "well we really wanted to make the forums a better place but I guess you fuckwits don't want that" manner while caving in.
By my math, they are still a few million points in the hole.

I think you are taking me too seriously here, Mr. Serious Pants.

I own all five books that are currently out you tard-shark.
Or are you not taking yourself seriously enough!?
Because it is a terrible idea.
It really was a fucking awful idea, though.
And it differs from a lot of fucking awful business ideas in that one couldn't avoid exposure to it by simply ceasing to use the service.
Plus the authorities in the UK pointed out to them that it would be illegal, though it's not entirely clear how it would have been enforced.
There are six books curently hout, Tard-shark.
So bought.

That shit ain't kosher for work.
Oh, the sixth one is out? I guess I'll grab it eventually.

SE++ OLOLOL!
We're through the looking glass now, folks.
Spoilering doesn't help, actually. They need to link it.
Sure, they were immature and sexist and reflected poorly on us as a community.
But I wouldn't be sad if they came back.
I thought red ranger was the name of the forumer who started it.
I am glad they are gone and don't want them to come back.
the same thing i will be reading in about two hours
and it's not happening anymore
we're obviously at a stand still here.
I'm sorry they had an idea so bad that you won't be enjoying sc2, though (iirc). even though it's not actually being implemented.
Their getting rid of LAN, region restrictions, max custom map size of 10mb, long fight to completely control tournaments didn't convince you of that?
Yes he can, it's called amnesia.
I'm going to burn through it and then PM you the ending and all the secrets. I'm evil, and that's what I do. I'll risk the infractions.
that's possible, I don't know. I thought it was the thread name but I may be remembering it wrong.
so sad, I was here and I don't have a clue.
where's dyna?

I don't think it has anything to do with people's opinions on sc2 but our opinions on blizzard as a company.
That they wanted to implement the idea, at all, ever, speaks very poorly of them.
