I honestly think that kind of storytelling is the best sort to use for video games, where the story's out there for you to find and put together and not given to you in cutscenes.
Majora's Mask does it, the Metroid Primes do it (mostly the first one though), the Team ICO games do it, Bioshock does it, HL2 does it (I think? I didn't really play it)
oh and look that is just a list of all the games people cite when they talk about good storytelling in games
BioShock gives you all the important bits, and you can just find out a lot of neat side touches by picking up audio tapes
HL2 is like "The world is in a state of oppression. Now go from point to point without any motivation whatsoever. Ravenholm is supposed to be scary for some reason."
But isn't your motivation to free the world from oppression?
And Ravenholm was scary because of those fast zombies. But mostly Ravenholm was fun.

I guess?
The plot in HL2 was a joke.
I can appreciate what they were trying to do, to make you discover things about the world rather than them telling it to you straightforward (in a manner that, say, Metroid Prime did two years prior)
But if I don't care about the world and characters that are presented to me at all, I'm not going to go digging into the game's back story by piecing together newspaper headlines or whatever

i used to think Zelda II was awful then I beat the first dungeon like three years ago and it's actually awesome
Got through the first big dungeon, then quit forever because I missed one fairy for a new technique and didn't want to have to do the whole setting up of the dungeon again to get it.

Oh man you really need to
you ain't seen shit yet
also if I remember right you can beat the game without any of the great fairies
I think Woodfall gets you sword spin, Snowhead gets you double magic, Great Bay gets you double health, and Stone Tower gets you a better sword
one of the prominent memories of my childhood is my mother screaming curses at the nes because she got killed by another 'cocksucking happy horse shit sonofabitching duck'
I have no interest in playing some Kirby doodling platformer the same way I'd have no interest in playing a Zelda soccer game, no matter how fun it was
'Cause I'd rather just play a Zelda game at the end of the day

okay you have a problem inside your fucking brain
one that needs medication and the advice of a doctor

There has never been a truer statement.
didn't play too much of Galaxy 2 to compare it. but I prefer the world hub over map screens
holy crap
Sorry Centi
It's science
Luigi's Mansion
Geist
Pokémon Snap

I didn't play Geist
but other than that I agree with this 100%
The only problem at all with Snap or Mansion was that they were short
and with Snap it didn't matter so much because it was a high score kinda game

Yes
Maybe
Yes
Pokemon Snap kicked so much ass though
if they fixed both of those things it'd be awesome
but they'd have to make a new console to fix that first problem

You might need the swordspin but I don't think so

In fairness
they totally need a new Mario Tennis
http://www.audioentropy.com/
you mean Okami
Okami was lame
Pre-ordered it and everything, was so excited to grab it on release day
Brought that shit back two days later
Goddamn did it look really nice, though
To be fair it's a pretty big flaw
i mean
they have a shell and everything
Plus some of them have wings
Turtles don't have wings
The only game my dad would play was Xenophobe.
I love the intro music bit
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TKhzol9K-X8&feature=related
but nothing too special to play I thought

Yes, that is another game where I can't imagine why people would get excited over it rather than a proper Kirby game
Thanks!
maybe we like playing fun games, and don't give a shit if THEY'RE BREAKING KIRBY CANON OMFUG
Compared to other Kirby games, Canvas Curse was terrible.

i think my top three would be Kirby's Dreamland 3, Kirby 64, and Kirby Canvas Curse
psssht
fun things are the worst
