WoW Insider's guild claims to be affected and so is a LGBT guild on Proudmoore.
I feel bad for these guilds because they are such a minority that Blizzard feels fine shattering them. It'd sting a bit less if Cataclysm launched with some kind of Guild Alliance framework.
"feels fine shattering them"?
Really?
That doesn't seem a tad overdramatic to you?
They're doing it for technical reasons, as they've stated. There's no secret agenda here.
Crimeny.
No secret agenda, no.
But really? Technical reasons?
They bumped it up 400 people in less than a week, what the fuck "technical reason" is there?

if i was going to spend money on a new computer hardware item it'd be a new graphics card, just because I think mine is about to give up the goose and I'd rather have a replacement ready to go so I'm not without a card longer than it takes to swap it out.

They said it in their post, they reran the numbers and decided that the servers could handle up to 1000 characters. It just means they probably recalculated based on an assumption of how many characters would be online at a time or how many alts per person would be in the guild or something.
Compare now to Cata. Now they just need to keep track of a guildmember's two notes and expose their last login time to the guild interface, so they didn't bother putting a cap on. In Cata not only do they need to do that, they need to expose achievement scores and professions to the guild interface and keep track of all of the guild experience and rep you're gaining as well as monitor if your groups are considered guild groups or not for the purposes of achievements and exp. That's a huge jump in complexity.

The exact kind their message on it talked about? Database calls and tracking and such I imagine.
It's not a hard limit, but rather "This is how much traffic we'd like to have to tolerate". Enough people complained apparently that they figured it was worth to effort to tolerate more traffic.

I was being more than a little facetious, but, still, the downside of hard drive space being so cheap has been the death of efficient coding. Does my WOW directory really need to hold 24 gig worth of stuff ?
Ironically, the need to write small, efficient cellphone apps has suddenly started driving development in the other direction.
Most of the space taken up is art assets, though. Compressing them could be done, but then you either end up with higher system reqs (to decompress on the fly) or a worse looking game.
You guys might want to put down BB King before Cata comes since 1-2 faction leaders per side are changing and I'm not sure how that's going to be handled.
Hell, you might want to do it before 4.0 drops since armor repair cost are all going to all be equalized to plate level.
That HD price is not a good deal. Maybe for the first time ever something is cheaper in canada but we've been gettin $99 2 TB drives for quite a few months now and somedays you can get deals where they are available for $80.
I bought my 1.5 TB WD drive prob a little over a month ago now for $$75 with tax
Just did the 3 5 mans in ICC for the first time with an awesome PuG group.
Those are some fantastic instances. Look great, nice bit of narrative to move em along and the Orgrim's Hammer popping up at the end was awesome.
Also you know you have a good group when noone really wants to leave at the ends and you just sit on your mounts chatting.
You should've queued for the heroics together. Turn that good blood bad, by the end of HoR you'd be sitting on your mounts complaining about one another on chat.
Come on 1000 member guild size. We REALLY need to get the PA people consolidated into an epic guild.
It was not meant to be.
It HAS to happen. I just won the lottery so I'm willing to pay for everyone's transfers!

Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
If that is from in-game stats, it's wholly untrustworthy. At one point I had no count for ToC bosses despite running it daily when 3.2 hit.

It's extremely trustworthy, considering that I watch it like a hawk.
Keep in mind that I go after the battlemaster thing and I keep the counter for the achievement in the corner almost all the time.

HHoR is a really awesome experience when the group is working together well.
I still groan a bit when I see that loading screen though, when I wonder, is this going to be a good group? Half the time, the tank just leaves before even trying anyway, and I end up being forced to wait out the dungeon cooldown.

Or both.
In fact, here's a good deal on one:
