No one got ripped off. I said I'd change the name of the account that won. I did. Then I made another one. Nowhere in the auction anywhere did it say that the victim had to continue posting with the same account.
Nope, it is all perfectly within the letter of the rules (which we never really got upfront anyway). And it was all for charity, and I doubt any of us really care. But it is still a very petty thing to do.
You could have done that just as easily by making the name/words banned from the name list.
Or by doing this, which is what I did. I understand you think that some terrible grievance has been wrought upon you, but it turns out you're shithouse wrong.

of course it's the case, but you still did a pretty dishonest thing just to rub a bunch of people who just gave money to charity's noses in how clever you are.
how was it dishonest
he said he would change his username
he did
he just made a new account with his old name
nothing in the rules said he couldn't do it
I have no desire to continue this discussion, and in light of your previously demonstrated inability to comprehend complex subject matter I'm not going to explain it to you. Google 'letter of the law vs spirit of the law' if you're really interested.
I think we all fully expected Cardboard Tube to do this
honestly I was expecting him to change his name for like, a day then change it back
If I'd done that it genuinely would have been bullshit. That's like if I'd knitted a hat for the auction and stolen it back the next day. This is like knitting a hat for the auction and then getting a new hat to replace it. Y'all didn't lose anything. The prize was the hat, not the joy of taking the hat from someone.
yeah good point i guess
also this thread is turning awful could everyone stop being assholes please?

Except that knitting a hat requires a personal investment of the knitter. Posting with a stupid joke name would seem to require that you give something of yourself to people bidding for the sake of that charity. Your recognition, your dignity, your gravitas, whatever. I guess people may not be so much frustrated that they didn't get something, but that you seemingly didn't give something.
This isn't my personal take on it, mind you. I'd like to be in a position where I could donate at all right now. But would you find it a hardship to have a dumb account name? I'm not sure why else you would bother to hold on to what you're used to.

You're being kind of a shit, dude.

Well, two admin accounts, at least.
yeah good point i guess

flabbergasted that anyone could actually be upset about this
Well, if you count Ramius and Alphamonkey, we have 4.
They're multiplying.
Ramius alt.
not to mention all the shadow admins lurking in the forgotten pages of forum history
whippy, bone daddy, deni, etc
there are like seven admin accounts.

Because the only ones I can recall off hand are you, Ramius, and Alphamonkey (though now that I think about it, his says PA Staff, too).
EDIT: Hey I wasn't saying I was mad that I gave to charity, I just would have enjoyed seeing Tube post as not Tube for a little while.
This is the best reaction
That's a lot of power....
Can they combine to make a MegaAdmin?
shankusu gambit: Poultry!
Khoo.
Rocking it old school.
lewiep's alphatubewhippydad
banning people everywhere
Shankill Butcher and Kusuguttai combined to form one account, and the Tube locked both of their original accounts and stuck them both in it.
That is a good post, Tam.

I was faking outrage.
I hold no strong feelings about this matter.
