Nintendo announces DS successor... IN 3D?!

    $249 isn't too shabby, all things considered. This sucker's going to sell out big.

    But, there's some bad news.
    Nintendo 3DS won’t be able to download games or access the Web when it launches, Nintendo said Wednesday.

    Although the company has plans to add a digital games store, Internet browser and other functionality to its $250 3-D gaming handheld, these key features won’t be online when 3DS ships in the U.S. on March 27, Nintendo said in a statement following a press briefing in New York City.

    Other functions that won’t be ready for launch include software that allows users to transfer their downloaded Nintendo DSiWare titles from DS to 3DS and the ability to play 3-D movies.

    Nintendo did not say when the “eShop” would go online, although it did reiterate that standard DSiWare, new games for 3DS and Virtual Console games from Game Boy and Game Boy Color would be included in the shop when it does.

    This is disappointing, to say the least — it’s a temporary problem, but it sends the message that Nintendo really isn’t as serious about downloadable games as it should be at this point. This should have been ready to roll at launch and installed on every single DSi user’s machine. Instead, it’s incumbent upon users to get online and download the update before they can start giving Nintendo (and importantly, indie game developers) money.

    Hopefully this means they're doing their best to optimize the browser, actually be able to play Youtube videos, etc.

    Anyway, the 3DS site has been updated with videos.

    Amazon doesn't charge until ship date.

    The lack of most of those features not being on every system from the get-go is disappointing. A light stutterstep from Nintendo.

    I find that kind of hard to believe.

    Yeah, nothing there I want either. Normally I'd be all over Animal Crossing but the last game was just rehashed crap with a bunch of stuff removed so it's pretty much off my list.

    Also, I pre-ordered Aqua Blue on Amazon, though I'm still waiting for word if my boss managed to sweet-talk the Nintendo folks in Amsterdam to send us free handhelds.

    The shop channel launched with the console, with like 5 or 6 NES games (Nov. 19 2006). Wiiware didn't show up until much later (May 12 2008).

    Good luck waiting on that $100 price drop. Didn't the DS "Fat" launch in the US at $179.99? The DS Lite is still retailing for $129.99.

    The Spartan in DoA Xbox was a female. I actually assume Samus will be in her armor for this game, or have armor as base and Zero Suit as her palette swap.

    The Zero Suit Samus outfit was kind of generous with certain assets too though.

    It wasn't the most conservative and ladylike appearance they could have given her at any rate.

    I've only heard of one of those games and I've never played it. I'm just looking forward to more Ghost Recon.
    It's going to be a strategy game, so you'll probably be disappointed.

    A lot of 3DS games look amazing, but I gotta say, some of the visuals on others look like inexcusable shit.
