Huh.
annie what's it mean if i am finding Bukharin's writings to make more sense than any other philosopher in that range
help, am i becoming stalin
I haven't actually read his stuff and am mostly familiar with him in association with the Right Opposition and the purge. I guess I could generally caution that it's easy to identify with the motivation of exigency that colored Russian communism, but that if it's drawn from an "anything has to be better than this" mentality with regards to power dynamics throughout the world, the solutions envisioned may present an unstable, self-perpetuating issue.
If you have interests in specific writings on economy and state that may stand apart from his engagement in the movement, I'm not really qualified to respond.
i was reading his 1918 essay Anarchy and Scientific Communism and it made me grow some sympathy for his dislike of the Anarchists in the context of the revolution, but ehnnn
Okay, I've only read sections I and II so far, but I have to shower and go buy tires or something. I think his position is hugely dependent on historical legacy, and his definition of distinction between anarchists and communists is strictly bound up in the formative state of Russia. I don't know if you would even mean to apply it to contemporary ideologies, particularly as both Marxist and anarchist thought have developed and differentiated through economic philosophy and social critique. I guess it marks me an anarchist first that I squirm about his advocacy of power/violence. I understand the context in which they thought it the necessary action, but I think that also reflects on the problematic way the Soviet state evolved. I'm kind of curious what his response to Stalin's collectivization was.
I also found this bit a little ironic:
It is up to the working class not to carry out a shareout that would favour the petite bourgeoisie and the ragged mob...
Greetings all. I normally spend my time on the PAX forums, but something has come up that I thought you'd have some interest in.
