iPad Garageband issues (again!)

Hi guys, thanks for the help with my last problem (switching basses sorted it). I have a new problem now. I have a new problem now! When I record bass (using the line in function), garageband is also recording the click/drums. I don't think it can be bleedthrough from the cans, because it shouldn't be anywhere near loud enough. Any ideas?

Well, lets get some obvious questions out of the way (I actually mess around with this stuff as well)

    1) What hardware are you using to line-in on your iPad
    2) What are you using to listen to the monitor / click when recording?
    3) Is your bass being recorded open air (like an upright to a mic) or is it a standard electric pickup direct to your line-in hardware?

    1. I'm using the iRig.
    2. A pair of pretty decent cans, plugged into the headphone jack on the iRig. I was sitting right by the ipad while the bass player recorded and I couldn't hear the click at all, so I don't think it's being picked up by the ipad mic (which is presumably off when something is DId.
    3. Bass is plugged into a cab, line out from the cab to the iRig.

Okay, the iRig, especially if it is the model that plugs into your headphone jack, is notorious for being noisy, poorly shielded (keep in mind both audio signals are passing through that chamber), and generally low quality.

If your noise gate in GarageBand takes too much of the good sound away in order to kill the click/monitor, may I recommend you return the iRig and get one of these instead?

I know it's more expensive, but the benefit of going through the 30 pin can't be overstated.

    One of the reviews here:

Talk about the mic being on all the time, even when using something like iRig to record line in.

However, it sounds like maybe the shielding in the iRig is crappy and you're getting some signal bleed within the device itself. Try turning down the output of the click and drums? I haven't used an iRig or Garageband, but I'm thinking about how if I run a really hot signal into my Mackie analog mixer it will sometimes bleed into other channels.

Yeah I'm seeing a couple of complaints about signal bleed within the iRig.

Edit: Hah, it got answered while I was googling.

Glad to help, sorry the help involves spending money. But as someone who dabbles in this stuff, it is never really cheap.
